In light of the Suarez/Evra and Terry issues, Serbian fans and now Jason Roberts with the Kick it out campaign, thought this needed a thread.

Is Racism in football really as bad as the media make it out to be?

To my mind and this might just be me, but I don't think Terry or Suarez are racists, I just think they are two despicable cunts who will say and do anything to wind someone up, even if it means mentioning race.

As for the Serbian fans, well that was pathetic and even more pathetic by UEFA to not do anything major about it.

Thoughts?

Society and government have far more power than football and that's the determining factor here

Can anyone beat this? Bit long but just start at 5:30

Dules, you're a big fan of NASCAR what do you think of Soul Glow?

They do but the FA, UEFA and FIFA have to take responsibility for what happens at football matches.

Have to say I usually hate Rio Ferdinand but I thought he was dead right not to wear the "kick racism out" t-shirt if he felt like it was bullshit.

Thing is when i see the paltry fines handed out, by UEFA especially, to these mainly "backward" Eastern European clubs who always defend their ignorant fans, it makes me wonder.
BTW i agree with you on the Rio issue

If the head of FIFA thinks a racism can be forgotten with a handshake then it shows that although football claims to want to eradicate racism it is actually just something to talk about. Isnt it racist from the fa that Suarez the foreigner gets a 7 game ban whilst terry for the same offence gets 4.

You are also right and i am guilty of the same thing as i only mentioned "backward Eastern European clubs" when similar (probably less blatant due to society) shit happens in Western Europe and even in the Premiership as you pointed out

Yep. You have to wonder why it's okay to ban fans for decades from football stadiums for expressing racist views when all the players get for the same offense is a small fine and a couple of weeks off from national competitions with full pay. The whole business with Terry's trial being moved to after the Euros must've hit a nerve too. I dislike Ferdinand but I can understand where he's coming from when he thinks they're a bunch of fucking hypocrites.

It's like everything, it's all just box ticking because somebody has to be seen doing something.......

racism is best displayed out in the open.

4 days later

He said that players should just shake hands and get on with it.

Platini is a disgrace too.

Why Gus?

That's just stupid, there is too much pressure on a referee to make that call. He'd no doubt be chewed out by FIFA and UEFA for making a call like that and 'casting the game in disrepute',
