Hello kitty: Wenger could use £35m windfall to enter chase for Falcao

Good financial results means Gunners boss has cash to flash and he's interested in the wanted Columbian striker

Arsene Wenger has been assured that he will have £35million-plus to invest in new players during the January transfer window.

The Arsenal manager will be able to use the profits announced by the club last week.

“If Arsene wants to use that money during the winter window then, absolutely, he will be able to do it,” said chairman Peter Hill-Wood.

“We rely on him to come up with the right people and there will be funds available to him.”

That will reassure both Wenger and the fans as Arsenal go in search of their first trophy in seven years.

Their start in the Champions League, after the 3-1 home win over Olympiakos, has reaped a maximum six points. The new-look team have also had an encouraging start to the Premier League and are through to the next round of the Capital One Cup.

“We have been very pleased with the start,” said Hill-Wood. “But if the manager wants to reinforce the squad in January, he will be able to do that.

“The financial results were good and we want to put that money to use if Arsene decides he wants more players.

“I like to think that the profit shows we are running the club on the right lines.

“We are not able, for instance, to be able to afford to write off £180m. That is not how we work.”

Along with a number of other clubs like Chelsea and Paris St Germain, the Arsenal boss is a huge admirer of Falcao, the Atletico Madrid striker.

The prolific Colombia international destroyed Chelsea with a hat-trick in the UEFA Super Cup in August.

His buy-out clause is about £50m – but that could drop because of the country’s financial crisis.

If Atletico come down to the £40m, then Wenger could be interested.

Would rather call Afobe back from his loan tbh.

As hard as it is to believe, I think he'd be an improvement on Gervinho at CF.

This quote is more or less saying you have wasted 1 minute of your life reading bollox

Haven't seen him play in a while, but when I saw him a couple a seasons ago he was absolutely top quality.

😆 yeah, this is going to happen. Wenger will rather keep his kitty and pat himself on the back for another job well done in coming fourth for the zillionth time in the past zillion seasons.

But seriously though, a signing like this would be a real signal of intent and indication that we're back, or want to be back in the big time for real. However, it would probably come at the expense of us selling Cazorla for 45 million in the name of profits.

1. Falcao 9 goals

  1. Messi, Ronaldo 8 goals

All competitions:

Falcao - 7 games, 12 goals, 3 assists
Ronaldo - 13 games, 14 goals, 2 assists
Messi - 12 games, 13 goals, 5 assists

The lad's incredible. Best striker in the world ATM. Had another amazing game yesterday

Clarence - enough with the hyperbole already!

no one believes this will happen.

He would complete our team, and that does not fit with the whole "always one player short of becoming league champions"-thing we've got going on. So no, he won't come.

Unless the FFP guys start preemptively kneecapping scouts and agents, this isn't going to happen. Can we just lock this now? By the way Clrnc, those stats are insane.

Whos better? lol

No one in their right mind would rate Falcao over Messi or Ronaldo. As for more 'pure' forwards I'd say that RVP and Ibrahimovic are better players. Personally I'd also rate both Tevez and Aguero ahead of him. I am sure there are a few more, but I can't really be bothered.

We are more likely to get someone like Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Silly thread.

Yeah youre right, I didn't rate Falcao over those 2. But as far as goals are concerned, he is top out there. 3 top top seasons already from him already. And its a misconception he is a Darrent Bent kind of FITB. He contributes massively to A.Madrid's general play as well this season if you even watched him

I never claimed Falcao is anything like Bent if you are talking to me Clarence.

By-the-by, Greame Souness said the other day that Messi and C.Ronaldo are the two best footballers ever. Something to think about.

It's a matter of opinion, but they're definitely up there.

Yeah i didn't mean you say that but there are quite a few here who have that in mind
