Yes, he shifts tack as giddily as Donald Crowhurst taking on Hurricane Katrina, trailing a wake of failed arguments and preposterous claims, but beneath the surface there's a hull of perfect sanity, albeit encrusted with revolting barnacles.
And in all other matters he's a reasonable and humorous man by the prevailing standards of the internet.
