We won't sign Cabaye this summer.
Yohan cabaye
Good player. But wouldn't he just be another Arteta? They seem like similar types of players.

No, they are not similar Arteta is a Holding Midfield player or DLP while Cabaye is a box-to-box midfield player who can do a job as the Holding Midfielder
Arteta can be whatever you wnt him to be
Similar in the sense that they can play any midfield role. It would be nice to have Cabaye around next time Arteta picks up an injury. It's not going to be a pretty sight when Diaby is the one who's tasked with keeping the midfield together.
Scary thought that.
That's why we needed Sahin. Art doesn't have backup right now...its' not good. Wenger constantly gambling on injured players coming back. So frustrating.
Cabaye would be good backup, but I really want someone with some great passing range in that position. I don't know him well enough to say whether he's got that or not.
He's got a bit of everything. He's a quality all round midfielder, but the price will be excessive.
Think Mvila is the sensible choice right now we need to ensure we have that defensive cover if Arteta is out, he can fill that role best. Should be too expensive aswell

They are but who wouldn't want 2 Artetas in midfield?
Two Artetas behind Cazorla would be a fucking excellent upgrade right now.
cabaye is good but we won't get him.
arteta and cabaye are similar in that they're all-rounders. doesn't mean they can't work together. i think they'd form a stellar partnership, alternating between who hangs back and who pushes forward. it won't happen, though.

Exactly.
Not to derail the thread but I think Wenger wants both midfielders to have equal responsibility both in attack and defence and Arteta has ended up taking a lot of the defensive responsibility. A Cabaye-Arteta partnership would mean we have two excellent all-round midfielders who are intelligent, technically good and can tackle too. And as Klaus has said it would mean we're not screwed when/if Arteta is out.

Wilshere is ace in the role.
I'd rather we splash the cash on a top quality match winner(forward) - Jovetic seems the obvious choice to me.

Wenger has been speaking about "freedom" in relation to his midfield options which would definitely support the notion that he'd be more enthusiastic about signing a top class versatile midfielder as opposed to one who is comfortable only when defending the space in front of the back four.
Cabaye fits the bill, Sahin would have too.
Just saw the photo of Sahin with his Liverpool jersey in hand
I'd like to get excited about the rumour linking us to Cabaye but I just do not see Wenger handing over that kind of money to Newcastle.
Sahin's not all that Y

Wenger also said he wants to signs a "top class midfielder, that's completely defensive", Y.
Hmmm. I don't know Ricky.
"If someone really top, top class comes up....I do not need to buy an average midfielder"
"If someone top, top class turns up, completely defensive, we will consider"
In his Wengery way that probably means that unless Yaya Toure or someone of comparable quality suddenly fancies a move to London we will not be signing a defensive midfielder.
As for Sahin, Dula, again I don't know - but I just had the feeling that Wenger really sees him as one of these mythical top class midfielders.
The time and effort we spent on trying to negotiate that deal was unusually long, especially for a loan.
We probably had not counted on Liverpool bursting in on the scene with their mad offer.
I wouldn't read much into what Wenger says about his transfer intentions. He's quick to play the bluff card, when he's up to something.
