I think that is one of the main reasons we lose so many star players, whilst teams like united rarely do. At arsenal the players are treated like gods especially the really talented ones, like vieira, cesc, vp and now its cazorla, so they feel they are bigger than the club who owe them. Whilst at united or chelsea the players are seen as resources and the better ones are included more but as soon as one steps out of line they are taught who's boss. That simply doesn't happen at arsenal mainly because of wengers "fatherly figure" approach.
