I think he gets way too little recognition compared to what players like van Persie got on here last year. It's expected on an Arsenal board though.

To be fair to van Persie, he did win both the big individual awards last season and finished as top scorer - so it wasn't just Arsenal fans that rated him. I think he was better than Aguero last season by a distance, but looking forward I'd take Aguero over him every time.

Just don't think he's anywhere close to the second coming he's made out to be.

Aye, it's a fair point. People generally seem to hype up certain players while others are undervalued. I imagine that it's a combination of on-field performances and off-field branding. Personally I think Rooney and Agüero were every bit as good as Robin last year.

Most people outside Arsenal think Koscielny is tosh.

My favourite player too but he's not universally recognised. I don't think any Arsenal player is now.

During the Euro's Bobby Gould said live on Talksport that Koscielny wasn't even good enough for the Championship. He wasn't saying it for effect either, he was deadly serious. Nobody really even argued with him either.

I think that's part of the same trend. I felt that Robin was getting too much goodwill for "single-handedly saving our season". Listening to pundits and fans from opposing teams you'd be forgiven thinking that we finished 10th. Some absolutely ridiculous opinions were bandied around where van Persie was compared to Messi, Ronaldo and Henry. He was bigged up as the only Arsenal player worth a damn. That's why the likes of Arteta and Koscielny are criminally undervalued at the moment.

Arsenal have not been taken seriously for years now.

Even in 2007-08 there were enough people who genuinely believed we would not win the league. Constantly laughing at us but we were the real deal. In the end they were right but they were so dismissive that I think they were shocked when it got to January and we were still there. And I know some were shocked because their arguments were venomous. When I had discussions about how good we were they got really pissed off in a way I haven't seen since. They knew we were a threat. Now they know we're not so all of a sudden they are saying, 'oh wow you play good football and Wenger's not so bad'. Bullshit. I am still so pissed off at that season because we could have had it. Wenger and Gallas let us down.

We'll get under-rated by the media and opposition fans until we win a trophy, everyone just laughs at us like we're a running joke.

To be fair they genuinely thought we were going to win the league cup against Birmingham and push on from there.

Then they all resumed laughing.

I genuinely believe when we win a trophy it will open the floodgates and many more will follow.

Too true. Until recently, with Dixon and Keown, we have not had many defenders in the media so everyone and anyone could have an unopposed go at us especially since Wenger got here and we are kind of considered to be a "foreign" team. Ian Wright, who was one of my favourite players, also let us down as he also attacked us more than he defended us.

I do think Aguero is a very, very good striker, that's undeniable. I just personally think he's extremely over hyped, the fact he went god knows how long without scoring a goal out of Manchester last season, for me, proves that to a certain extent. People have different perceptions and opinions on what a 'big game player' is, I'd call Javier Hernandez a big game player but other people would turn around and say he's an average striker and so forth...

Good. I don't see any disadvantage in people outside the club not rating certain players. Keep them under the radar and they won't be demanding ridiculous wages.

In the early 00s Wenger was widely mocked for suggesting that we were good enough to go through a full league season unbeaten (which we then did). When Alex Ferguson and David Beckham said the same thing about United one or two years earlier it was hailed as a sign of United's dominance.

I can't say I care either way. I don't put much stock in the opinions of most football fans and even less so in those who support other clubs but think they know Arsenal better than I do.

Damn straight.

Spoke to someone today who seemed genuinely shocked that I am boyuant about our chances this year. He wanted to rub it in about rvp, and he thought I'd be downbeat like I was a tad last summer.

Don't think it's registered on him just how good cazola, chambo and wilshere are going to be for us this season
