Bit of a stretch to say Simeone and Athletico had the better of them last night. Granted they got the win but Madrid hit 2 or 3 posts and Ozil had a shot blocked off the line.

But, I'll agree with your point that he's had a poor season and spell at Real Madrid.

freiburg were absolute horseshit when i saw them play dortmund at the westfalonstadion. i'd be shocked if they made the CL.

They didn't. Lost it on the final day.

The thing about Freiburg is that they are one of the two smallest clubs in Bundesliga, yet they were seriously competing for Champions League. They have no money and not a single star player. When Streich took over in 2011 they were stuck at the bottom of the table and no one thought they would avoid relegation. The Premier League equivalent would be to coach Reading to a 4th place finish.

I don't think you can really translate what Freiburg have done with a premier league example. The Bundesliga is a very unpredictable and competitive league compared to the premier league. Nearly every season you get a new bundesliga team in the top four. Streich would never be able to take a midtable club into the top 4 in the premier league let alone the likes of Reading.

He wouldn't, because Premier League works differently (it doesn't encourage or reward fair play, for instance). It was just a general example to get people a nous of what he's done. Streich was selected as the best manager in Bundesliga last year above the likes of Klopp for what it's worth. Have to say it's pretty improbable that anyone will beat Heynckes to the puntch this year, but that's the company he belongs in as a manager.
