Chelsea were shite
What exactly is 'result based tactics'
Are there teams who employ tactics without the aim of getting a result?
No, but there are teams who not only set up to win matches, but also entertain the public. Think of the current Barca side or the great Ajax sides of the past. Wenger, Van Gaal etc share similar philosophy of playing football.
There are others however who set up with the sole purpose of getting results(don't give a fuck about entertaining football fans); handover the initiative to the opposition, rely on free kicks, corners, mistakes by the opposition(on the counter) to score goals. Think of the catenaccio sides of the past. Mourihno, Benitez etc share this philosphy. It's the easiest way to win trophies IMO. I generally detest it and I think it's very cowardly when big clubs with the world's best players employ it. However I believe we should go through the same route unless we start spending heavily on top class players. One of Wengers biggest mistakes over the past 8 years IMO, trying to play attacking football whilst competing with sides with far bigger budgets.
