Didn't deserve to lose. Spain passed it backwards and sideways as per usual, and we countered well, with Ribery fucking up a 1-on-1 Gervais style, and 1 brilliant save from an Evra header. Koscielny didn't play particularly well to be honest - he mopped up in the air because Spain are shit in the air, but got caught dwelling on the ball a few times, and genuinely didn't look that comfortable alongside Varane but it's early days and I really think that's France's best CB pairing (Mexes might have a shout but I like that Deschamps is blooding younger players).
Pogba is a beast, but a little reckless at times, and while the second yellow was harsh, it did seem like it was a matter of time. Still though - monster of a mid. Glad he fucked off from United.
Monreal was fantastic - probably the most exciting player on the night. Looked very busy all night, pulled a glorious cutback for Xavi (who thankfully missed with only Lloris to beat from all of 5 yards), and seemed like the only Spaniard making runs in behind the French defense. Spain's system is weird - the fullbacks are effectively wingers given their ball hogging, and their "wingers" just help clog up the centre. Got the assist too, and just looked dangerous with his constant forward running.
