If they're starting for Arsenal then they should play like they deserve it. If he's not up to snuff then he shouldn't be starting, and any criticism with a solid basis in the reality of the performance is totally valid. Just like Diaby and Ramsey, Wilshere should NOT be a starting player at this club if he can't perform like one. Bench until up to snuff should be the policy, not straight back into the first team wandering about on the pitch for a few months trying to find your form again.
