I get what you're saying, but we started Oxlade-Chamberlain in that wide position on Sunday, who's never had a spell in the first team remotely as long or as consistent as Jack's 40+ appearances from midfield a season ago.

As soon as Wilshere's fitness is solid Wenger will start using him. So it goes right?

Wenger has been the most averse - out of anyone - to hype and speculation about wilshere's return. He has stopped Wilshere communicating with the press and has kept him out of the limelight. I don't sometimes believe Wenger when he talks about recovery times for other players but if Arsene stresses that Wilshere is looking good and doing "very well in training" i think that goes beyond just injury concerns even if he hasn't started training with the ball. I can only hope Araene is suggesting his speed and agility is back. For Jack, adjusting with the ball is not the problem, it's about the drop of the shoulders and the sudden change in direction. Im positive, and it's hard not to be excited, but I agree it's better to expect little and (hopefully) be pleasantly surprised.

BW - (in mid options) Rosicky out of the plans cos insignificant, forgotten, what?
With people both mid and wide (Caz, Ox, Jack) that's short in numbers. Plus, If Rosicky plays anything like last year (NLD and after), he'll be a good option to ease pressure on Caz, mainly (lesser games, subs, etc.).

I'm not even asking about Arshavin.

Agreed, I reckon rosicky is just a bench/squad option like Benayoun last year. I really like his game and I think he'll link up better with the more technical players in the middle. Can't be relying on him though so hope injuries don't get severe.

Just hope we never see Rosicky play wide ever again.

If Wenger does play him out there he's a chump - can't see it happening with the options we have now myself.

Agreed, the key word being eased back into the side, we can't just throw him in as he has been out for over a year now so will take him a good few weeks maybe months to get back to sharpness. Also this injury all came about from being played too much at a young age imo so we have to be more careful with him.

Cesc never got 'eased' back into the side after injury. Diaby hasn't exactly been 'eased' back either, and neither was Vermaelen. As soon as Wilshere is fit to play I predict Wenger will play him. A lot.

Jack as the furthest forward midfielder and Cazorla on the wings is not only about accommodating all our best players, but it also makes us stronger, since Cazorla is better than any winger we've got.

Both Diaby and Vermaelen coming back to fitness coincided with being able to play a full pre-season though.

But I agree that he'll be expected to contribute and play a fair bit when he's fit, but then that's the point isn't it?

Of course. I just don't buy this 'ease him in' thing one bit.
Wenger never gambles in the transfer market, but he doesn't seem to mind about gambling with players' fitness. Cesc v Villa springs to mind, Cesc v Barcelona as well, but the most ruthless decision was probably Diaby v Liverpool last season. Been out for ages but Wenger just chucked him in waaaaay too soon.

We had no other midfielders when Diaby came on the pitch against Liverpool. Generally speaking it's hard to be certain when a player is ready, and if he's 100% fit, he's still liable to pick up muscle injuries because he's not played for months.

At some point you just have to play him and I think we've gone the extra mile to protect Wilshere already.

We're always desperate when we chuck these players back in. I don't think we'll be desperate in this case.

BW- Rosicky won't be considered for wide position. Not sure if I can promise you that for Arshavin, though 🙁.

great thing is they'll all be able to rotate during matches if we need to switch it up

It's because he's been out for so long.

We've restructured the midfield twice and brought in players to cover us over, we've waited 12 months already - another few weeks won't make a difference. In the case of Fabregas and van Persie, we literally had no choice - either play them and hope for the best or face the risk of dropping points.

Can't imagine him taking a chance on Wilshere now. Wilshere is Wenger's last major project imo (in the Cesc, Henry bracket) and jack could well determine how his reign at Arsenal will end. Arsene knows that.

I guess if Diaby breaks down soon-ish, and Wilshere comes back in really good form we might be over reliant on him again. Or, god forbid, if Arteta breaks!

Easing Jack in is what we are seeing now. When he gets back on the pitch he will play. A lot.
