If Song leaves its because Wenger doesn't rate him anymore.
Alex Song
So why do you guys think Barcelona want Song?
Most of you think he doesn't do the job we want so what the hell do Barcelona see in him?
Cos the better player Javi Martinez is too expensive?
If we sell it'll be Wenger's decision, so why would Wenger not want him anymore?
I reckon Song would play almost exclusively as a centreback at Barcelona. He'd do well there for them, in my opinion, because they play a certain way, doesn't mean he doesn't have his flaws playing as a midfielder for us. Dani Alves couldn't play right back for us in a million years, but he's brilliant for Barcelona.
Good squad option for Barca?
Anyway I've not got a clue what's really going on here, Wenger denying, Song affirming, Sky saying negotiations underway.
@ timbo
Cash in now before we sell him for less next summer or the summer after.

They may as well sign a proper centreback.

Song has looked nothing short of brilliant in his appearances at CB for us.
From what I can see none of the newspapers have picked up this story yet.
Nothing in the DM, Mirror, Sun, Guardian, Times.
Leads me to think this is just twitternet gossip and mad speculation so far.

Nah, we'd easily get £13-15 million next summer and the one after that unless something strange happens.

I've not got any clue either. I was sure we'd ride out the Song storm for this summer at least up until yesterday.

Both Guillem Balague and Graham hunter are reporting it so there must be some truth it. Skysports and Mirror have reported on it btw

They don't play with "proper centrebacks".
I find this season that once the DM (of all papers!) start running a main story on any given transfer there's something in the rumour.
They were on to Podolski, Giroud and Cazorla very quickly.
That's just it, I was going to object to your OP because 'playing exclusively as a centreback' doesn't really make sense for them.
I'd be very disappointed if Song left. We'd lose a lot of presence in midfield that people are keen to ignore in favour of tangential stuff about discipline. We'd also lose continuity and a guy who is almost never injured. Sahin-Arteta-Cazorla is a hypothetical first choice midfield with 12 months of Arsenal history in it. One of those guys goes down, suddenly you're back in limbo raffling places to Rosicky and Diaby in crucial matches.
With the players we've got, we'd absorb it but the flippancy surprises me.
Song is going nowhere.
These rumors are all nonsense with everyone copying each other.
Can't see us selling Song unless Wenger's suddenly given up faith in him and certainly not for as little as 15m. But if we do sign Sahin then it is likely that Song will be on the way out eventually
I'm not adverse to the idea of selling Song but I genuinely think (if the rumours are true) that the timing is ludicrous and it smacks of us being ambushed by Song, his agent and Barca.
If he is sold we currently do not have a midfielder who can adequately contribute what he does.
If and when we do make a signing our new midfield will take time to gel, and looking at our fixture list time is not a luxury that's available to us.

Puyol and Pique.
They played Mascherano at CB very often last season
