It wasn't odd at all. Wenger is a massive fan of Sahin.
Wilshere is far from being guaranteed an uninterrupted run of fitness this season.
Arteta and Cazorla cannot sustain that midfield in all competitions and there will be a noticeable drop in quality anytime either of them do not play.

I think Cazorla was Songs replacement. Song was never a defensive midfielder for us last season, he was more of a box to box creative player. Arteta is our DM and will remain that this season, Wilshere will come back into the midfield and play with the two Spaniards. Rosicky, Coquelin, Diaby and Ramsey would be more than enough cover in Wengers eyes.

Wenger probably pulled the plug on the deal after hearing positive news regarding Wilsheres progress.

Instead of walking through us they'll just pass round him. Same difference. The most spectacularly overrated player I can remember.

for all song's problems and weaknesses, he did contribute going forward. with m'vila we'd have two sitting central midfielders. leaving our forwards to create things for themselves. that would essentially give us at most two creative, attacking players. cazorla and chamberlain. however the front four would more likely be cazorla, walcott, podolski and gervinho. a set up like that suck balls.

M'vila would help solidify us, but he wouldn't bring the excitement that would have come with Sahin.

M'vila is clearly available and given the issues that Rennes are currently experiencing in shifting him he'd be available for Wenger money.
You have to ask why it is that Wenger isn't right in there tying up the deal?
Just a hunch but I reckon M'vila's seen as a risk these days- on the back of an average season that ended badly.

for me it's not just about sahin vs. m'vila. it's about the whole team. we're trying to play quick, technical possession football, but clearly lack the players to do so. we already have too many players playing regularly that are nowhere near the technical level needed. we can not add more players like that to the squad. we need players who can actually improve the type of football we're trying to play.

Well thats pretty disappointing if he ends up at pool, seriously disappointing. The only reason i was ok with song going was because it meant sahin coming in. Still Mvila or capoue it is then

M'vila sure doesn't excite as much as Sahin but his skill set may be more useful to us now and in the long term especially if you remember how much we sucked when Arteta got injured last season.
