i see the talent, but he still doesn't inspire total confidence. when the ball heads his way, instead of thinking "right, kos will take care of that", a bit of doubt creeps in that maybe this is when he makes his 1 fatal cockup that cancels out the other 93 minutes of excellence.

that's why he's not yet rated by opposition supporters. of course, they think he's a donkey, which is totally off the mark as well.

Neither of them inspire full confidence but Miquel is still just a 20yr old novice with potential whereas Djourou is a 25 yr old who has been in the main squad for several years but still not broken into our "not particularly impressive" defence. He is a lump but cannot remember him dominating strikers like other CBs i could name

Ahem, Djourou dominated Drogba once. That's more times than any other CB we have.

Indeed. Easy to forget he was one of our best players from the season 2010/2011. He's much better than people give him credit for and at 25 he's still got a lot of time to deliver.

Don't get Miquel's hype though. Would have favoured Bartley over him and not really sure where his strengths lie.

It didn't last though, did it? He never got that form back after his injury and even now seems a bit nervous as his confidence seems to have taken a hit. Nobody forgets this purple patch but every shitster bar Squillaci has had one, even Chamissmark.

Djourou seems like someone who needs a run of games to get going. Which is a worry given that he'll never be afforded that opportunity.

Always thought he was an accident waiting to happen. If anything should send him out on loan and maybe getting 30+ games a season might help but we can't be taking risks with him in our first team.

I'd take Djourou over Evans or Savic any day. He is a better CB than Ivanovic as well IMO.

No chance in hell. Imo, amongst the top teams 4th CB, Ivanovic, Vertonghen, Smalling and Nastasic is better than Djourou.

I really wouldn't mind selling him, ever since 10/11 season, his standards has dropped to Squillaci level

And Djourou was our best CB a couple of seasons ago.

The thing is though, that most players need a run of games to be at their best. As a bit part player I think Evans is a lot worse than Djourou and he makes more mistakes.

Every defender makes mistakes. All the time. Senderos's problem was that he was never very good. He had certain leadership qualities but he never found a way to adapt his game to his cumbersome physique.

I think Djourou is a decent enough 4th choice, but I dont really like him. Think he's very weak.
