He obviously lack games, his form will come once he starts playing regularly. I'm more worried about Vermaelen, he's been weird lately and I don't like the look of him as the new captain either.

You know I am not too serious on this guys. I quite rate Kos. He really has everything to be a world class CB.

However, it is also undeniably true that he roughly averages one crazy moment per game. Not a poor decision which everybody is inclined to make, but a real potential game changer. He got punished twice yesterday and also almost gave away a peno. Lucky against Man City not to gift them a winner.

He IS a lot like Senderos in that respect...

He really doesn't average one mistake a game. He makes mistakes over the course of the season though, big ones.

Vermaelen was up front and was struggling to get goalside when Chelsea broke, hence the free kick.

I think thats more to do with wenger's 'creative' side where he tells DMs like song and CB's like verm and kos to get forward when the opportunity arises, because all the players in the team can attack. Not to mention his use of the Fullbacks as wingers.

It can be great at times but defense is just as important IF you want to win at all costs. I hope bould can enforce this.

We can, last season we conceded very few headed or goals from set peices (cant remember the stat). Yesterday was a one off and bringing back Per will be huge.

It will be huge. We need to do away with this silly notion that pace is the be-all and end-all for defenders.

Both things are equally relevant.

It's not as if preventing our central defenders from going forward will mean we concede less free kicks just outside of our area though?
Even with defenders in a deep position the fact of having to defend in and around our box will mean we will concede free kicks at some stage.
The only way to prevent this from happening is to own the ball in midfield and stop it from reaching those areas.

That depends, has anyone looked at what way we conceded most freekicks outside our area?

It's not even almost 'equal'. Might as well complain about conceding corners - they will alway happen in a game, and you need to be able to defend them.

The fact that we've conceeded 3 goals from set pieces in the past 2 games is unacceptable.

I also want to see more of Gervinho up front but he should only play there when Szczesny, Mertesacker and Diaby are all in the team.
He should not play up front when there is no one over 6 feet in the team. That's just ridiculous and asking for trouble.

Well, if we admit that we can't defend set pieces, the first thing you do is make sure you don't give away cheap free kicks.

The biggest worry is that we haven't shaken off the habit of conceding a goal with virtually the first shot on target.

The first thing you do is learn to defend them, surely? No team out there doesn't give away set pieces.
