Croatia might have had a late goal in them as well, if Modric's legs hadn't gone with 20 minutes left. He was sublime on the day.

I though Croatia were excellent, but Spain did enough ultimately. And very likely would have done more if it was needed.

Agreed that Croatia played that game perfectly, and that they are a good team. But whether through complacency or whatever, I dont think that was Spain at full tilt.

If they weren't at full tilt then they're seriously flawed in their mentality. They were a couple of decisions away from being knocked out that night. They needed the win and had no right to be complacent.

Aye, I dont deny that they are a little complacent. Thats what I implied on the last page when I said that they havn't improved cos there's no team out there that's able to get too near to them on a consistent basis.

We'll see how seriously flawed that mentality is when the trophy is handed out this weekend I guess.

He's as good as they come. Seling him back to Barca for peanuts was one of Ferguson's biggest mistakes ever.

Was Pique prepared to continue as back up? Didn't he yearn to return to Catalonia?

I have no idea, but it's not like it was easier to break into Barca's starting eleven at the time. It's only my personal impression but I always got the feeling that he moved back because he never got a fair chance at United. They didn't seem particularly bothered at losing him either. £5 million was considered a terrific fee for a reserve.

I really think Barça & Piqué are made for each other (and by extension Spain).

Always felt like he might not look quite as good elsewhere, but he isn't elsewhere, so it's irrelevant really. Best passer of a ball I've ever seen in that position though, his vision & range is incredible

Thought Ramos looked the better player on the ball throughout this tournament. And also streets ahead without it.

I've heard the theory that Pique is nowhere near the same player without Puyol next to him. He loses concentration a lot and can be quite flakey. Apparently Puyol screams at him for 90 minutes when they play together.

Ramos looked dodge for Madrid this season.

Ramos largely had a great season for Madrid IMO.

Was never a fan of Ramos, particularly at CB, but he's been very good every time I've seen him recently.

Pique was dropped/'injured' this season because of his form.

Ramos is brilliant. Will be one of the best centrebacks around for years.
