Rohit was talking about the (then described as 'cheap') decision to hold off on signing Chamakh for a fee at the time, and to wait until summer to get him on a free.

🙂 Yes, that would've been a brilliant strategy indeed - but was just what many advocated at the time. Though I think the fee talked about was more like £7m for the most part.

Chamakh has been such a disappointment, but it took a lot of us a long time to spot it, me included.

He has gotten some thumping headed goals, we just don't cross accurately or often enough to make him effective enough.

He missed a lot of potential thumping headers in second half 10-11. Was a bit unfortunate to be fair, and then got dropped for all the other reasons, like lack of effort.

I know you don't believe in numbers, but I recall some stat floating around that said we'd had a relatively very large number of crosses last season. Accuracy is a problem though.

We may have had the crosses, but more often than not no one was there to meet them- especially not Chak as he probably wasn't on the pitch.

Most of them were low or hit the first man. There were always players in the box last season, or at least in the half Ramsey played.

@Biggs Yes, of course - our crossing stats last season are irrelevant to Chamakh. Point stands about his inability to sink a header in the second half of 10-11 though - he missed a large number of sitters.

Yeah, obviously the form of RvP has limited his chances and being thrown on for the last 10-15 is hardly ideal for improving your own form, but thats the nature of the game.
With RvP seemingly on the way out it's time for Chak to step up or fuck off.

I think our biggest problem in shifting our dross is that wenger doesn't have a lot of friends in this league and our ex players are't coaches.

Look at ferguson and how he gets the likes of roy keane, steve bruce and mark hughes to buy his crap players. If we had keown, adams and ian wright managing in the premier league we'd shift our crap players a lot faster.

Just this summer alone hughes has taken fabio on loan and bought ji sung park.

Not to mention that the likes of martin o'nel and tony pulis don't like wenger to begin with so that's two managers we can't deal with.

Of course we can deal with them. Do you think if Bendtner had actually been good for Sunderland MON wouldn't have signed him just because of Wenger?

Aye, people are making too much out of manager relationships. It might help United to offload an O'Shea or a Brown every now and then but no one would sabotage for their own club just because they don't agree with someone else on a personal level. Business is business. O'Neill is just the guy who decides whether he wants Bendtner or not. He's not the one doing the actual negotiation, and neither is Wenger on our part.

I far too often literally imagine Wenger doing negotiations with everyone when I know that it isn't the case. Poldi never even met him, let alone negotiated with him. Had a chat on the phone or summat and that was it.

Yeah, Wenger wasn't even around when Podolski signed the contract. Dick Law and his team are the ones who conduct the negotiations.

And Wenger's got plenty of connections around Europe. The problem is our players are not worth the salary they demand.

When we loan players do we still contribute to paying their wages if there is a shortfall between the amount we contracted to pay them and the amount the loanee club are willing to pay?

Yeah, they have to get paid the total of what is agreed on their contract with us.

Read an article today that raged about the fact that players like Adebayor were able to collect their full wages when ultimately they could be in a position where they should have to accept a cut in wages for the privilege of playing first team football.
