Ball over the top of Vermaelen is generally the easiest way to score against Arsenal. Either that or a speculative effort from outside the box...

Koscielny is more vulnerable to that in my opinion. Easily his biggest weakness.

I'd say having good balance and agility is more important than outright pace for an Arsenal centreback. We leave them facing one-on-ones more than any other decent English club by a country mile.

That's a reasonable qualification - but my point still remains the same after all that. If you're going to have a slower, taller, more lumbering centre back for strength and aerial contests, you've got to balance him. My mistake using the word 'pacy' I guess.

Biggus is a forward thinker. He only counts the clubs above Arsenal, and the one rotting piece of dog shite that is Spurs. Which means that according to last year's table, we're second from bottom.

How far back do you want to go? Since 2004 we've reached the Q/Fs slightly more often. Which puts us at or around 10th place.

I counted us 8th not just because we reached the Q/F's but because logically there are certainly 7 clubs better than us but even you wouldn't suggest that there are 15 better clubs in Europe even if you do want to lower the cut off to the round of 16. There's no reason to select the lowest end of the class. Quality of the squad should be taken into account.

We're not in the top tier of European clubs GM, theres no way you can twist it, therefore we're mid level.

With the on going RvB saga and the likes of Arshavin Bendtner Rosicky and Chamakh still here, theres a lot of purging to be done, or we're looking at another summer from hell.

Why are you including Rosicky in that list Biggus?
He's clearly not going anywhere (not saying that I'd mind if he did, but it's not exactly a curse that he stays).
Arshavin and Bendtner will go.
That just leaves Chamakh - cillit bang wouldn't shift him unless someone is desperately seeking a cut price deal on August 31st.

Think Theo will stay, Robin? Who knows, but I actually think we have a strategy and plan as regards this saga as opposed to
the panic stations that we resorted to last summer.
Signs are clear enough that we're after a midfielder of some recognised quality too.
Might not be what you'd class as a dream summer, but it's not the summer from hell that we experienced last time around.

You cannot discount either the fact that Europe is on the brink of an even greater financial abyss.
Only clubs being bankrolled in the way City and Chelsea are funded are someway immune.

If you want to talk in terms of European performances well then I suppose Man City and Spurs are lower table clubs since they've both only had in one season in the Champions League and didn't win it.

If this just takes in who are the biggest clubs in Europe historically then we are this:

The third best team in England, who went through an entire league season unbeaten.

That alone puts in the top tier of clubs, based on our history alone. Yes, right up there with Man Utd, Liverpool, Juventus, Ac Milan and Barcelona's of this world

I admire your sentiment Kid but your logic is frankly- Bollocks.
I never said anything about historical or biggest, I said top tier (in Europe).
And don't come back with any of that UEFA statistical crap which rewards consistent mediocrity.
And if we're mid-level, the likes of Man City and Spurs who hardly have any CL pedigree at all are bottom level.

I now see your point, you're talking about team's performances in the Champions League. If we're going by recent runs then the top tier of Europe has to be all the teams who have made the final or semi final in the past 4 years.....

2008-09- Semi final- Arsenal.

If this is an overall thing since European competition began then fairplay we are midtable and we won't enter the top tier of clubs until we win the big one but as far as recent history goes we have been right up there, competing with the best of them, and you can't deny that at home in Europe we are a fearsome prospect. I think only Man Utd have beaten us at home in Europe in the past few years. Something which Barcelona (twice) and Ac Milan have failed to do
