Think Bartley have a future here. Not so for Lansbury, big shame for him because I think he is quite decent squad player.

I thought Lansbury had a big chance of making it, but it's obvious now that he won't. He doesn't seem to have the right attitude and he isn't naturally gfted enough to make it without it.

I don't really know what's supposed to be wrong with his attitude, but for me he's just a bit too slow in head & foot.

Shame really, was super impressed by his technique when I saw him as a 15 year-old, but then I said the same about Ryan Smith.

How though? He's 5th/6th choice CB at the moment, and all of the players ahead of him have long contracts and a lot of years left.

I think both lansbury and bartley will be decent to good Premier League footballers in time, and it might be a wrench to sell them, but realistically they wont make it here. Could probably get quite a bit of money for them, with some favourable clauses thrown in too.

Depends on Djourou, in the immediate term, and probably also whether or not he's a genuine option in midfield.

I did go on to mention why he wouldn't be picked up by a mid-level club, just so that I don't get called out. But never mind, cherry pick away!

European standard? 32 teams qualify for the Champions League alone. We tend to be in the top 10 out of those teams.

It's just not factual, whichever way you want to slice it.

You've espoused that opinion before. Not sure what it is about him you rate. Looks very average to me.

He's calm, on and off the ball, big and intelligent. He looks like a proper defender.

He has a lot of good traits. My main worry with him is he seems to lack pace and genuine power

Don't know why people say that. He's bigger & broader than Koscielny, and only 19. He's hardly weak.

I appreciate that calmness at a young age is a good trait but he doesn't seem especially aware positionally or endowed with much pace/mobility to recover.

He has enough pace and mobility to have done well at full back against Premier league opposition, including Man City. Not many 6ft 4in centre halves are capable of that.

Not sure if there is really anything negative to see about him at this point. Recovery defenders are bogus anyway. Better to be strong and do it right the first time.

You can't stop good forwards from beating the offside trap every time.

In my opinion we need at least one pacy centre back on the pitch at all times given how far we tend to push up. So if it's not Miquel (or Mertesacker) it will need to be his partner.

Don't go there girlfriend, I don't know where you get your facts from- we always qualify but rarely make it past the quarter finals, whatever about the PL we are the epitome of mid level in the CL.

Exactly right, but two pacy defenders can't recover every time if they keep letting the ball get played over their heads. With our defence as it is right now, I definitely think we require one of each.

How often do you see a forward break beyond the last defender and then get caught purely because a centre back is quick? I'd say it happens very rarely because at the highest level if a forward times his run well and gets a couple of yards on a centre back you're not making those yards back unless the forward fucks up.

Pace and mobility is always useful, but for a centre half in our team it's not so much for balls over the top, but mainly for balls played down the channels. But if you read the game well you dont need to be particularly quick or mobile at all.
