AVB would be a wise appointment. Not sure he'll be given time though, by either FSG or the fans.

Quite a few seem to want Rafa back, they really do cling to the past and any link to former glory.

I think they'll go continental too Capi.

They'll go like the EU, find themselves a 'technocrat' to install at the top of the latest overspending clusterfuck administration.

LFC won't go for Rafa again because Liverpool fans view him as a near deity (ho hum) and if he comes out against the owners, as he did a few years ago, the power will shift into his hands again. Plus he never stopped going on about lack of finances and generally being a whiny idiot. I wouldn't hire him.

The number of Glaswegian managers in the Premiership at the start of this season: 7

Alex Ferguson, David Moyes, Kenny Dalglish, Owen Coyle, Steve Kean, Alex Mcleish and Paul Lambert

Now there all but three have been sacked or relegated.

I think the best quote I read from a Liverpool fan is that Dalglish was the manager they wanted, but not the manager they needed. I reckon they will get either Martinez or Villas Boas. The problem for Liverpool as I see it is that they have some very expensive players who will be difficult to move on and may not really fit into the new manager's plans. Martinez will be the safer option IMO as he has managed in the PL with worse players and still gotten results against the best sides in the division.

That's a very good point. It's effectively what happened with Dalglish this season.

Apparently Dalglish actually did try for that Tevezβ€”Carroll swap deal.

Carroll is a better player than what Daglish got from him. Not a Β£35m player but not completely useless either.

As for the talk of AVB would he take that job? He needs a success next, he'd have to work miracles to manage that at Liverpool.

Hope not. I quite like Martinez.

Why? What has he actually achieved at Wigan?

Exactly Don, everyone has kept Wigan up for the last 100 years, Martinez is just another mediocre manager beloved of the tipy tappy clan.
He can do nothing till he off loads all of Kennys Kloggers that will take time, meanwhile normal service will be resumed, Man's City & Utd Chelski will take top spots with us back to our 4th spot- we know our place and Liverpool should know their's.

They have a very forward thinking board. They know Martinez is the best man to keep them up next season.

What relevance does that have to Rex's comment?

I don't get it, such a brilliant manager. Not delusional or stuck in 1955 at all.

he's done more than most to keep racism in football. i can see why liverpool supporters love him so...

i can see them going with AVB. but if i were AVB, i wouldnt take the job. the expectations are completely out of line with reality. hard to see anyone's reputation being enhanced managing there.

So far even Liverpool's hunt for a new manager isn't going to plan - Brendan Rodgers preferred staying at Norwich over joining them.
I wonder if they even have a plan as to who they need and how they're going to get out of their King Kenny engineered disaster.

The Liverpool supporting nut in my office nearly hit the ceiling yesterday when he heard that "miserable **** ********* ****" had turned them down.
Most amusing.

rodgers is at swansea.

i like managers like lambert (norwich) and klopp. they seem badass.

Oops, yeah, Swansea πŸ™‚.
Tells me how little I differentiated the newly promoted sides and their managers this season.

I feel you y va. Almost all of them whupped our arses nicely.

And rightly so too Y va, they all usually go down in a season or two anyway.
When expectation is loaded on them they crack.

The rationale behind AVB is supposedly that he's young, and might stick around and build a dynasty.

If that's the rationale, he shouldn't take the job. First, continuity just means an ever increasing gap between the 'patience' of the owners and the insensate fury of the support, and second he doesn't want to live up there long, surely?

Frank De Boer has turned down an offer from Liverpool. He's confirmed it himself, says he wants to stay loyal to Ajax.

they need to start checking the dole queues by the looks of things... should be long enough...

Alex McLeish is getting closer to his Premier League comeback. Mark my words.

They certainly know how to make the candidates feel wanted don't they?

Like some dweeb asking all the cute girls for a dance in order of decreasing prettiness.

they're gonna end up with allardyce at this rate. the moneyball yanks will love him - so efficient on a small payroll while at bolton. he could manage at madrid or barca too, he said.

Alex McLeish. Watch this space.

πŸ˜†
Could they really reach that stage of abject desperation?

Definitely deserves another sacking. Hernan Crespo at centre back?

Thought this was funny. πŸ™‚
