Basically, you know if Wenger convinces him to sign he'll turn to shit, if he goes he'll be excellent & Wenger will sign Gervinho mk2 to replace him.

We should sign him regardless, in order to protect his value - but yeah, he's half a striker. The ball can't stick up front because Theo has no strength and still can't really dribble that well (unless he does that fall over thing that makes everyone drop their guard).

Still a good option to have though. Pity we don't rotate.

If only our wage structure isn't like this. Is completely wrong to pay average players so highly but top class players too lowly. Its what its failing us in modern days competitive football, Wenger recognises it but doesn't change it. Weird

I'm not sure I agree with that.

I don't think we have a serious wage budget distribution problem relative to other top clubs, I believe the one major issue we have is retaining our top tier stars, but it's debatable whether we can seriously compete with Chelsea, City and United on those £200k/w contracts.

If our league results are in line with wage expenditure, how can anyone simultaneously claim that Wenger has his squad performing below potential and our wage spend is inefficient?

The "shitsters" theory doesn't seem to fit the facts too well, as other clubs have money going to waste on unused or unproductive players as well. I mean, Liverpool had Joe Cole on £92k/w and just paid him £3m to fuck off! Every major club has these horror stories.

The other category of player that many argue is paid too much is youth. Perhaps we could be saving a little on this side, but our main issue isn't what we're paying them, but having the judgement to know when to persist and when to sell - as we're yet to know in Theo's case for example.

That's was Ba WAS on ... not what he will be on at Chelsea. And that with a £7m release clause to which we would (quite rightly) be unlikely to agree.

If we'd signed him on similar terms back when Newcastle scooped him up from West Ham he'd now be playing for Chelsea or another big-spending club just as surely.

Burnsy, the thing to remember about these massive contracts is that they are restricted to only one or two players. The guys who matter. The players who matter at United are Rooney and van Persie. They make this massive money. Nobody else on that team makes more than 130k, and even then few players are above 100k. The rest of the guys are on living wages.

We got it wrong with socialism. We overpay a bunch of bad players who Ferguson would either pay less or not pay at all. Our wage policy is ludicrous. You need to pay the players who matter a lot of money, and retain them.

Now, I fully agree we should be breaking the bank to retain key players - I had a whole thread about how we should offer Van Persie £180k/w before he fucked off.

But we can't afford as many massive pay packets as the competition for the time being. We can't really afford over £150k on a player who's anything less than a sure thing.

I think most those you suspect on 100k+ is on 200k contracts. Especially Yaya and Terry

Depends on who you believe but Toure is definitely around that sort of figure; either high 100s or just above 200. Don't think Terry gets near that.

Agreed, that info's based on a couple of fairly conservative lists I found, no telling the accuracy.
