This is the Walcott I had in mind all those years ago. Still has things to work on and improve - the two counter attacks he fucked up were appalling - but I genuinely believe with a few more games to get his head around playing as the spear of the attack, he'll do much better in those situations. He has it in him, he just needs to adjust his game a bit to work better there.

He's terrifying for the opposition right now though I'm sure.

Totally feel the same Ricks. Was so ambivalent about him having last summer but he really looks be proving himself now. As Lagos said, he has his limitations but when he sticks to his strengths, he's devastating.

I don't like him through the middle at all. He doesn't deserve a new contract with a huge signing-on bonus if this is how we plan to use him. It sucks to lose him for free but that's life.

Theo had a bad game, but he's plenty good enough.

The problem is definitely Theo, or rather, our sudden insistence to play him through the middle. I don't give a fuck about goal stats. The style simply doesn't suit the team.

but lone strikers can't come in and out of games the way Theo does when he's on the wings. The Chelsea set up was different, Lampard's the club's top goalscorer as a 'midfielder'.

Or at least it's one of a few problems.

Stylistically, bringing Giroud on completely changed us, but we still payed like shit. We don't have a striker capable of doing much of anything on their own, Theo. an exploit his pace, Giroud his heading ability, but without service you won't get much from either. We just need a better striker.

You need better technique than Theo to play as that last shoulder striker that he wants to be, especially as a lone striker.

Need more from Cazorla as well if you hope to play Theo there; again, he didn't ask a single question of the opposition defence today.

If Defoe and Owen can succeed as a striker, why not Theo? Because of the system we play tbf. He can't really cut it consistently as a lone striker

He needs to make better runs as a CF for when a cross is coming in too. He always looks for the cut back when he should be getting on the end of balls into the corridor of uncertainty.

Can't believe no one else has highlighted the biggest problem with Theo at the moment. And I say this as a big fan of his. He's currently a greedy little fuck on the pitch who doesn't care how the team does as long as he gets the goals and headlines. Keep an eye out for it.

what sums theo up for me is that botched pass on that 2v1 break against newcastle. i can't take a player who botches that pass seriously, and he does it all the fucking time.

that's why he can never be relied upon against good teams in big games, where you absolutely have to capitalise on the 1 or 2 opportunities like that. frankly, you can't count on him against mediocre teams, either. it was an easy pass too, i'm certain most of us would have had an assist there.

He makes those. What messed him up was that he was in two minds. He should've passed it a lot earlier than he did but he banked on the defender going towards Cazorla, which didn't happen.

As I said, he's driving everyone on the pitch mad right now because he is looking out for himself only. As a striker he should be the one closing down the goalkeeper yet it was Cazorla today that was forced to do all the work. I saw Podolski having a go at Walcott a few times today.

With all the hype around the contract, it's the Theo Walcott show right now. And people will keep pointing to his recent goalscoring record to show that him being selfish is a good thing. But this way the goals will soon dry up for the team. Players will start to lose (more) trust with eachother and we'll be relying on individual pot shots.

Two years ago, we could have moved him on without a fuss, but I think we need to sign him as a matter of principle now. Limited as he is, we're unlikely to replace him with equivalent quality and we're already light up front.

The string of unsuccessful forward signings in recent years is what has our backs to the wall. We cannot afford to lose a striker who has a reliable weapon or two and is scoring goals.

Really looking to Podolski as well to kick up from a 1 in 3 striker to a 2 in 3 striker in the second half of the season, but the signs aren't great there. If his productivity goes backwards over the next season and a half we're in real trouble.
