I don't know ... Wenger seems short on inspiration, but I don't think it's any coincidence that we're currently playing with the worst crop of strikers I can recall in all my time as an Arsenal fan since the late 80s.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong and I've forgotten a worse period, but Giroud-Podolski-Walcott-Gervinho-Chamakh, all in middling to lousy form, is absolutely mid table quality, especially (to return to the thread topic) with Walcott half-excluded by contract wrangling.

AW really needs to grow some balls with the leeches that we have... the likes of Chamakh, Arshavin etc are all happy to stay and just pick up there wages and do fuck all... they need to be put in to train with the reserves and made to play every reserve game from now to the end of the season.. earn you fucking wages or gtfo

Glad that people are finally coming around to the realisation that there is a lot of fat on this squad. It's been killing us for year. Chamakh and Arshavin money should be going to RVP and a trainee.

A lot of people have been arguing for the past two or three years that there isn't. That Wenger isn't wasting money on marginal players. Trust me, we pay Chamakh, Squillaci, Arshavin, etc too much money. Even Djourou. People have acknowledged that there are shit players, but many have argued that there isn't a wage allocation problem. I feel we are getting there slowly. Defeats by teams like Swansea suggest we have too many players who are overpaid relative to their ability, and just don't have top tier superstars who would command big willy wages.

Nobody has ever argued that as far as I am aware; wastage is a bog standard result of any employment in any industry at all levels.

Pay wages to a fourth placed squad, get a fourth placed finish. Who needs to rake over individual cases and numbers? Waste of time.

The reason Chamakh is on such high wages (around 80K I believe) is because "tightarse" Wenger thought he was being clever waiting and getting him on a free, as a free agent he commanded much higher wages than if we bought him now we're stuck with him.

Couldn't be arsed with a new thread so just throwing this in here. Says club are confident on Sagna plus chamberlain, wilshere and ramsey will renew soon.

Not sure about that almost 90k to Wilshere; seems a bit extreme.

No word on the Theo as yet.

It's extreme because it's making a rod for your own back on the next renewal in two years. Keep in mind he still has around 30 months to run on his current deal.

Again, not really. Star players command star money. Lets just keep him at 50k now instead and see if he still wants to be here next season shall we? The contract has to be renewed so we can at least get a big fee for him at the next renewal time in 2 years. Give him a good wage now and maybe there's a chance he might want to stay in 2 years.

it definitely is extreme. we go from one extreme to the next with these contracts. get bit by flamini turning good overnight so they feel the pressure to give denilson and bendtner for example a nice wage packet well before it's needed and he becomes an anchor that you can't get rid of.

jack doesn't need to be dealt with now at that level. we won't build up ANY goodwill with him or his people by paying him more than we need to right now. we'll renew him at 90k tomorrow and city will come for him in summer 2014 and we'll have to bump up jack again anyway because his people will say "hey this is what city is willing to offer." you think chrome dome can respond with "hey what about when he paid him an extra 40k a week for a whole year and a half when we didn't have to, that doesn't mean anything?" big laughs all around. forget jack right now. save the money for when city/chelsea comes and then make a competitive offer then. don't bid against yourself when it won't mean anything for the future.

Except we all know that once City/Chelsea come in he's off regardless of what we offer anyway. May aswell squeeze another couple of years out of him before he asks for the move. Keep him at what he's on now and he'll be off in the summer.

so if we know he's off regardless of what we offer, why waste 40k for a year. you think renewing his contract that's 2 1/2 years from expiring and bumping it to 90k a week is going to scare off chelsea/city?

No but perhaps it might encourage him to stay another couple of years instead of leaving at the end of this one. It's not like we're going to spend that money on anyone else are we? So why not spend it on keeping the stars? Perhaps that's what he's asking for to stay. If he hadn't got injured and had last season had a similar or better season to the one before then been a starter at the Euros, lets not pretend for 1 second he'd be playing for Arsenal this season.

Here's a better idea, let's leave it until the contract has 1 season left on it. That's worked out really well for us hasn't it?
