I agree with Asa on this one as there are bigger problems in this team than Theo. All players are limited and Walcott is and always will be more limited than most as he seems to accepted the fact that he is not a natural footballer and never seems to even attempt step-overs or even keepy-uppies like we see the Ox practicing in his free time. Although this does not guarantee success, (Quaresma, Jordan Henderson, etc), it does not mean they useless to the team as depending on how their attributes are used, they can be very effective and i will leave it there as i am stating the obvious!

The problem with Theo isn't that he's not a somewhat effective player. 10/10 goals and assists if you like (in a good year) … fine.

The problem's that he's not the answer to our problems, and he's probably about to leave for not very much, in fact so little that the prospect even of replacing him like for like is in question.

Let's not forget we paid £9m for him, will we recoup that having developed him to the point that he can be relied on to run off the ball, to assist competently, and to finish accurately? Are the relatively marginal contributions he's made in the last six years all we get?

That's where i fully agree with Lagos as we should never have invested so much time and money on such a limited product. The coaches should have insisted on him learning basic dribbling skills within a time limit and, if he was incapable of learning, ditched the project earlier but now, almost a decade later, it's too late.

Theo would be fine as a squad player in a title winning side. And by squad player I don't mean the likes of Chamakh, I mean a proper squad player that comes in and makes a real difference when the better players get injured or are tired or just off form. Plus he's quite unique in a number of ways so he's a good tactical option.

I want him to stay.

We must not lose Theo. We seem to only wake up "what did we do" when we lost them. He was very unconvincing, his development was frustrating and strange, and he did do all he can to convince us he wasn't a natural, and never will be really great. Yet he kept advancing, kept improving aspects of his game. And he is now a player with a very solid return, and some deadly tools in his locker. We cannot, we must not lose Theo. It would be absolutely dumb.

Theo actually had 3 goals and 3 assists(or 2 goals and 4 assists, if that goal was given to Jenkinson) in the game. Not too shabby from a sprinter.

havent seen the match yet, but the praise seems a bit over the top given the opposition. understandable though.

anyway, if theo's worth 100k, then i dont know how we didnt offer van persie 200k, esp when you consider how much it costs just to acquire a player like van persie.

I find these comparisons a little tedious. I'm as tired with the club's policy as much as any other person but lets think a bit. As soon as you offer one player a big salary, everyone else on a good run of form will want the same. If you give Van Persie £200k, you have to give Cazorla something similar. When Wilshere starts playing a few games, he's wondering why he isn't on that money. One of them doesn't pay off long-run (ala Arshavin - started brilliantly...now shit) you're stuck for the next 3 years paying over £120k to someone you don't want.

I don't think Theo is going to be a special player. But I think he is going to be a very useful player. Someone who will get around 20 goals playing up front or 15 goals from out wide. Someone who will frustrate and delight in equal doses...but they can't all be superstars and Theo easily looks good enough to play a role for us atm.

I would love for us to keep Theo but it's not going to happen. I hate how the board are lining their own pockets but giving Theo want he wants (i.e. what he's going to get at Chelsea and Man City) is a recipe for disaster, it truly is. We've missed our opportunity to sign him up on reasonable terms and we're paying the price for it.

You'd have to watch the abject shambles that we were in the first half to appreciate just how crucial and key his goal was.
Stood out from everything that we did in those 45 minutes because he took his chance cooly and with style when everything else had fallen asunder.
Second half he worked hard, showed fierce determination, it was the attitude as much as the two goals scored and three assists that made the difference.

You wouldn't have to give Cazorla something similar, Jack wouldn't expect that sort of money, and the risk comes with the job. Utd took the chance on giving RVP all that money and now they have the league's best player, sitting in 2nd place and we're 5th with Gervinho.

And United haven't suddenly had to start paying Valencia £200k.

The idea that everyone will want £200k if one player gets it is bullshit. They all already want £200k, it doesn't mean we have to give them it. We should however give it to players who are worth it.

The ridiculous reality is that no player at the club is on £100k now, yet when we last won the league we had 3 or 4 on that. Thats 8 years ago. Considering how much more money Premiership teams earn now its farcical that we don't have 4 or 5 players on over £100k.

Right on the money here qs.
I do not want us to pay the obscene wages Mancs, City and Chelsky are meting out, but we are not paying our best players enough regardless of those.

Tactics

I think u guys would find out the likes of Rooney, Rio, Vidic etc are on pretty high wages.

They can't tie Nani down because he's also asking for high wages(130k)
