he'd be excellent as a darren bent type for an everton, aston villa or fulham. he needs to accept that he's not good enough to play as a CF for the likes of arsenal. the whole henry comparison thing needs to stop too, he's not even in the same conversation.

I find all his centre-forward chatter fucking ridiculous, to be honest. The wide forward role is pretty much perfect for him, yet he seems to have decided that he's too good for it.

Kami, not sure about the Bent comparison, maybe Agbonlahor would be more appropriate!

It's Wenger that made him think he would become a central striker. Wenger created that problem and should already have taken steps to disabuse Walcott of his expectations - these things are always obvious to spectators but not to the person involved.

Maybe Wenger intends to give him the chance up front, has had for some time, and just hasn't had the opportunity?

Theo has always considered himself a striker. It's where he played his youth football and where he played in his season in Southampton's first team.

And thinking about it more, I don't think he hasn't played this season because he's being punished. After hearing him talking about the turmoil of the last week of the window, I think his head's not quite right, or at least Wenger thinks his head's not quite right.

Or he just isn't better than Podolski and Wenger doesn't want to play three strikers in the forward positions anymore.

Asa: if Wenger has seriously intended to give him a chance up front, why repeatedly bring in or promote other players in the centre?

Ricky: if Theo still thinks of himself as assuredly a central striker after five plus years playing on the wing, he's not thinking things through.

Burnwinter - I don't doubt he certainly wanted to develop him on the wing at least. But if he had planned to eventually move him through the middle, there are a few things that could have held up that transition:-

1) van Persie
2) rubbish alternatives as wide forwards
3) him not developing as expected in certain areas

I'm just speculating really, I have no idea what Wenger intends to do with Theo, just going on what we've seen happen.

Theo could play the role Gervinho plays now. He won't be as useful in combination play but he will definitely score more goals.

Gervinho will score lots of goals. He already has 3 tap-ins in 6 games. That's just the way we roll. If we played Vermaelen up front he'd be good - 20 in all comps. Not even sure Gerv can do that. Theo would get more though agreed. But if he wants to be a little bitch and not take the billions we're offering him, then he can shut his little bitch mouth.

I tend to think the same but for me Theo is going to have to wait for his chance. I'd start with Gervinho vs Chelsea.

His second goal against Coventry was mighty.
He knew exactly what he was going to do the second he received the ball, really cool finish at the end too.
Impressive.

He should just forget this waiting for assurances nonsense, sign an extension and then just show some determination to play his way into contention for that striking role.
It's almost cruel that he's heard what Wenger has had to say about converting Gervinho and then witnessed him starting in the position he covets.

Hate to be devil's advocate, but it's a nice second goal, just not a very convincing one, from the replay—the Coventry defence has stopped running, and it's not just Theo's pace making it look that way.

Finish is excellent (as was his first) but we know that about him.

🙂 Hmm, yeah I suppose I should have mentioned that the Coventry defence looked beaten and lacklustre at that stage.
Still, it looked impressive the couple of times I saw it.
