Hummels was really good. Probably means Mertesacker will only see action if injuries or suspensions hit Germany at CB.

Wouldn't mind at all, from an Arsenal POV, if Holland don't go through. We'll probably get news on RVP earlier, and if he stays there is a bigger chance of him having a decent season for us.

Yeah, Germany don't look as fluid as they did a couple of years ago. That might change though.

Echo Rex, Hummels was quality! Poldi needs to try and not volley everything. 😆

Portugal were a bit unlucky with Pepe's shot. Nani's miss-hit cross doesn't count.

That got my goat. The first United player that shows up hits the crossbar from 35 yards out, meanwhile Szcz gets sent off, Robin misses 3 sitters and Podolski was average.

Anyways, if France can't win it I was really hoping the Dutch would for Robin, but that doesn't look so hot right now. Still have a feeling that they'll squeak through but I don't think it's in their hands.

Have a feeling Spain will be playing piggie in the middle with Italy so that could be another dullfest. Would leave to see 1 Pirlo pass lead to a goal after Xavi, Alonso and Iniesta have 92 square passes between them.

Nani was no better than average to be fair.

Teams are showing Germany more respect than they were two years ago. It's forcing them to pass sideways more often, play with more intelligence and patience. Shows up the technical limitations of a few of their players as a result.

The only way I can see the Italy v Spain game becoming entertaining is if Spain score early. If the Italians are allowed to just play on the counter it WILL be a snooze fest.

What a bench Germany has btw. Some of the best young talent in Europe in Götze, Kroos, Reus and Schürrle.

Hummels was fantastic today. So strong in the tackle, so good at reading the flight of the ball and has excellent technique. The whole lot, really. He'll be the best defender in the world in 5 years time.

I regret not watching Argentina v Brazil now, finished 4-3 with Messi scoring a hattrick.

I haven't touched a joint since March!

Thought he was one of the few players who could hold his head high after that dire match and everytime I watch Dortmund, he is sensational. Even has that aura to him.

Dunno if Kos is one of the best around. Still is prone to silly mistakes, but he's certainly one of the best in the premiership. Best French CB as well, though Blanc annoyingly doesn't see it that way.

I thought Podolski, Khedira, Ozil, Boateng and, obviously, Hummels were the best of the lot. Schweinsteiger was horrible.

Overall it didn't really click for any of the teams today but it's happened before in the opening games of the tournament - no biggie.

Khedira was the best player on the field for my money. Filtering tirelessly all over the pitch for the entire game. No wonder Löw loves him.
