France have a stonking great team. Just because the names aren't as big as before does not mean they're no good. Much of the issues with the team should be alleviated now Evra has gone a bit shite and has nowhere near the influence he had before.

They'll play a four-man defence. Barzagli will miss most of the tournament with a calf strain and without him the squad doesn't motivate a 3-5-2.

The biggest problem on forehand is that Prandelli is going to insist on Montolivo who's just had the worst season of his career. His record with the national team is still decent but both Nocerino and Giovinco deserves to be included ahead of him.

We're probably one of the worst, if not the worst team in the tournament, but we might frustrate a couple of teams in our group.

Spaceman's zany predictions:

Russia will be very impressive. They'll breeze through their group and run the Dutch right to the wire in the quarters before bowing out.
Portugal and not Denmark will come last in the group of death.
Germany will bottle it
Ireland will bore Spain's 47 attacking midfielders to death and manage (just!) to grab a 0-0. Actually I think Spain's lack of penetration and balance will finally deal them a death blow.
Italy will do their professional job and go all the way. Pirlo will dominate.
England will be raped by France but jam a 1-1
France will fuck it up, despite being one of the more balanced teams in the competition and playing some of the best pre-tournament stuff.

Played well enough. I think it's interesting how Blanc (who usually takes 15 years before he finally drops a favorite and gives a form player a chance - hence Mexes and Malouda still starting games) is trying to shoehorn Kos into the side. He recognizes that Kos provides good tackling and has the best passing range of any defensive player bar M'Vila. He really should start at CB though. Neither Rami or Mexes are good at starting attacks and Mexes especially hasn't even looked good at stopping them.

I half think our CBs are going to cost us against England, and maybe Blanc will give Kos a shot afterwards.

I forgot to add that Spain will hit the post twice, have a very strong penalty appeal turned down by a Richard Dunne piledriver, have a legit goal ruled offside (it was JUST on, but a reasonable mistake) and Ireland will have 0 shots on target and less than 35% possession. This will be heralded in Dublin as one of the great results for Irish football. :hat:

I actually don't mind Ribery. He can be twatish but he's also brilliant and lately has been playing like he has a point to prove. I think Bayern's 'so close but so far' season that they just had will really push him and when on form there really is nobody better. Fuck Nasri and Evra though, I'm fully with you. Give me Clichy and Ben Arfa everyday.

My (not so zany) prediction: Spain will be the best team in the competition by a street, although someone might finally beat them by riding a huge amount of luck, scoring from one of their only chances and then defending for their lives. Otherwise expect to see the horrible midgets celebrating in a month's time.
