I would like to congratulate Roy Hodgson on becoming the England manager. Particularly as we are playing West Brom soon.

Good decision. Far better choice than Redknapp IMO.

Also means he'll have to rest on his, er, laurels, at Spurs - which should be funny. Predict a plummet for them next season.

Good decision- did alright managing international teams before yes?

Hodgson will flop I believe but I do like him and hope he does succeed, he's reminds me of the lovable Bobby Robson.

As for Twitchy 😆

It's official.

Press conference at 4pm (12 mins).

And the lols at Harry's expense continue.

😆

I'm not a wheeler dealer. Fark off.

The knives are already out for him. The press are just utter cunts, all crying because they wont be able to buy a few insider exclusive from Harry for a few grand.

Redknapp wasn't even called for an interview, the only people who touted Redknapp as the next England manager were the journalists themselves. Everyone else just jumped on the bandwagon.

Tell me about it.

I hope England succeed (as I would anyway) and the press can do one.

Why don't people rate Hodgson in England? Or is that just me getting it the wrong way around? Usually when I talk to people in London it seems that the only thing he really gets credit for is what he did at Fulham a couple of years ago. Is it because he's moved around so much in his career? Over here he's considered one of the better managers in Europe. He's been on tv for years (he speaks Swedish flawlessly) and his opinions are always appreciated.

The FA are actually refusing to speak about why they didn't even call Harry.

Indeed, apparently he speaks 5 languages, he has an air of the Wenger about him a bit of a nutty professor.

It's because most of his years were spent abroad and he isn't a tub thumping twat.

a good choice.
some are blaming the FA for the Harry speculation (and, of course, the Spurs decline).
Well, the FA did the right thing. They waited till late enough in the season that the announcement wouldn't affect Hodgson's team's fortunes.
Harry and the journalists can do one. Plus, I quite like the idea of Harry at Spurs another year (rather than a top manager taking on the project)

I think, given the criteria the FA had clearly set, Hodgson is the right man for the job. Not quite sure about the 4 year deal, but i really hope he does well. He's clearly not going to be given the chance by some.

Makes you proud to be English. Tossers.

I don't think that's necessarily a dig to be honest James; think the hacks tend to quite like Hodgson.

As for the decision, well other than the obvious benefits this whole charade has provided, I think this has the potential to actually be quite an astute appointment. However, I do fear it could be Pool all over again: if he doesn't have the popular support as well as the dressing room support, it's going to be incredibly tough to win them over. Think people will people will be quick to criticise regardless of any context.
