Player of the year nominees: Sergio Agüero (Manchester City), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Scott Parker (Tottenham), David Silva (Manchester City)

Young player of the year nominees: Sergio Agüero (Manchester City), Gareth Bale (Tottenham), Kyle Walker (Tottenham), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)

Thoughts?

Looks like a bullshit list as usual to me. Parker has no business being anywhere near it and Yaya Touré is surprisingly absent. I would have included both him and Juan Mata.

I'd expect Rooney and Agüero to walk away with it. Can't see Robin getting the nod if United win the title.

How on earth did they miss Mata among the Young players of the season nominees, by the way? He's exactly two months older than Agüero. He deserves a nomination more than Walker, Welbeck and Chamberlain.

Arguably deserves a mention in the main category. Think Rob has had just enough hype to secure it this year.

Just realised that Kompany is absent too. Suppose it doesn't really matter in the end because he was never going to win it, but still. No one's going to convince me that Scott Parker and Joe Hard have had better seasons.

Parker? 😆 Clearly not as good a season as last year surely? Toure, Kompany, Koscielny or even Song deserves it more to be on the list.

I see the age restriction is 23 or younger. Far too old. Given the short careers of footballers and that most players are in their prime only in their 20s, 21 or younger should be the age restriction.

I don't see how 22 and above is that young given how young most players start their professional careers.

The bias is ridiculous. Professional footballers are pretty clueless though I suppose.

Parker's inclusion is embarrassing. Truly.

Robin wins the main prize by a landslide. I don't think any of the other players or the the fans of their clubs would even question that.

RVP deserves it - I think Rooney will win it though.

Young player? Who cares. Agree with the sentiments that it is a joke list of players over all.

I will be very surprised if Robin doesn't win. I think he's a shoo-in.

One would think so Ricky, but...

RVP - 27 goals and 10 assists
Shrek - 24 goals 4 assists and league winner. probably.

I can see Rooney getting it. Especially since he has been really good for Man U in the business end of the season while RVP has cooled off somewhat.

Still struggling with that Scott Parker nomination. Jesus.

I thought Cesc was a shoe-in for a few of the previous seasons too but apparently scoring 19 and assisting 19 wasn't good enough to even finish ahead of Milner as the best youngster. These awards are usually pretty shocking. That being said, Robin has received a lot of hype this season.

How Scot Parker is on that list i will never know. Both Arteta, Song and half of the CM's in the premiership deserve to be ahead of him.

The award is a bit of a joke anyways, based on some ridiculous decisions over the past few years. So Parker and Walker should win it just based on that.

No Mata, no Kompany but we got Scottie in there.
Do they have to fill a quota for English players?
That's the only reason I can think of for them including him.
Can't seriously consider he's been in the top ten players this season let alone top six.

Stopped taking this award seriously when Giggs won it a few years ago.

these awards are meaningless. most awards are - no one actually thinks winning a grammy or an oscar means you're the best in your field. they're just hype-driven popularity contests.

Grammys means you are the best that year or at least the most popular. Of course they mean something.

Some dodgy nominations I guess, but Aguero will probably win Young Player and he IS the best u23 footballer in the league, and either Rooney or RVP will win the senior award and they are the two most infuential players in the country.

So fair do's really.
