I have a laptop with a touchscreen. You are absolutely right that it is totally crap feature on a regular laptop, and I never use it. Now, if you can fold back the keyboard, which you can on certain models, then I can see how the touchscreen is useful as you can use the device as a tablet. Having said that, the Surface Pro series and the Surface Book are clearly much better machines, where you can truly get a laptop and a tablet in the same device.

I think that's the crux of the matter. If they can somehow put in a keyboard that can fold backwards without feeling bulky but at the same time when its open feeling like a proper keyboard and not some plasticy thing they threw on like you have with some of the Samsung tablets then it's a good idea. Dunno if they can make a solid, proper keyboard when open but simultaneously not being obstructive when folded back though.

Lenovo has such a machine, but I don't know what the keyboard is like. Having said that, the keyboard which goes with the Surface Pro 3 is very good, and the keyboard which goes with the Surface Pro 4 is excellent. You have a magnetic locking system with these devices, and that feature works really well. Means you have nothing to fold back or the like, but that you can use the device as a proper tablet when you want, and as a proper laptop when you want.

Finally picked up a surface pro 4. It's an incredible machine, absolutely delighted with it so far. Honestly it's the perfect student device.

I want one. Saying it is perfect for students isn't quite true though, considering they are very expensive. Hey, you have a rich mom though... 🙂

I want a Surface Studio, but doubt the bank will give me the mortgage required to get one.

Excactly. The highest spec MBP should be much better than a laptop/tablet hybrid. I also don't think goon was talking about the specs, but the touch bar and the removal of ports.

Edit: Thought you were talking about the Surface Pro. Is Studio the same thing as an iMac?

Surface Studio looks cool and all, but for myself I can't really see a practical use for those special features. What I'd really like to have though, is a SurfaceBook. Unfortunately, they don't sell them in Sweden. At least they didn't when I last checked. The new one seems absolutely amazing. Could buy one online of course, but don't really want to. Think my next upgrade will be in about 6 months, and I think I'll go with the Surface Pro 4 then.
