That's not quite what happened though.
Obviously Dortmund would have wanted to extent his deal regardless of our or any other club's interest. But there seems to be no indication to me that Götze is remotely interested in moving to Arsenal when it is clear we're extremely interested in him. But if he secretely is, by all means go for it.
