The girlfriend has recently got an LG Optimus One P500 which is pretty cool. It's at the lower end of the market and one of the cheapest smart phones you can get but it seems to do most things you'd want. I guess the camera is not of the quality the higher priced phones would have and the screen is plastic rather than glass etc. Battery life is a bit shite though - it generally has to be charged every night if she's used it much in the day.
Personally I'm still on one of the most basic $70NZ phones - Samsung E1310B. It's lasted me longer than any other phone I've had (about 2 and a half years now) and only needs to be charged about once a fortnight. A good smart phone would be a nice gadget to have but I don't really see a need for one personally. I only really use it to call/text my parents, text the girlfriend which as we now live together is much less frequently than 6 months ago, and keep in touch with my football team, which as I'm now not playing this year due to injury will also be much less frequently. I also have an ipod for listening to music/podcasts and am happy enough with an in-car map book for the occasions I have to drive somewhere I don't know, which as I won't be driving to various football grounds this year will be extremely rare.
So I guess I'll get something like the LG one when mine eventually dies but I don't really have any desire to pay out a fortune for one at the moment when I don't need it.
