We should just buy the best player we are able to, and let them show us who is the starter and who is the utility man.

"Strong interest in Vertonghen from #thfc, #afc & #nufc but Spurs have so far presented the most attractive deal + terms #bbcsportsday #ajax"

Fuck

Why exactly do you think they know anything worth listening to?

If that's true, it wouldn't be surprising. Tottenham need him a lot more than we do.

Fucken spurs, fuck off useless cunts! Find your own players instead of sponging off us all the time.

Really early to say anything because it is only May so doubt this transfer will be concluded quickly however I think if we want this guy we might need to act early. I see no reason why we shouldn't be after him though, seems a very versatile and solid player and we need to ship off players like Djourou and Squilacci so this guy is very much needed imo.

Buying him and mvilla or martinez would have us sorted defensively, i can see him fit in very easily into the mancity side alongside the likes of kompany and yaya players which we could do with.

he's not a better midfielder than barry. he's a ball playing cb capable of filling in at dm.

I'm pretty certain he'll be earmarked to play DM for us if we sign him. It would fit in with Wenger's m.o, rather than buying an established international as cover for a position we're already well stocked in. Wenger tends to look at a players attributes and how they would work best in our team, and he also believes that good intelligent players can play anywhere. Besides, people said Henry was a winger, petit was a defender etc.

Veronghen can't turn on the ball, can't play passes left and right quickly. He's too big and too immobile to play in midifeld for us.

We'll see. Hasn't looked slow or immobile from what I've seen.

He can run, but he can't twist and turn and move one way quickly and then the other, let alone pass the ball under pressure in more directions than straight in front of him.

Anyway, it's only my opinion, like you said, we'll see.

I.e he's not Alex Song?

I doubt we're in for him, personally, think old rumours are just getting rehashed at the minute, mainly because the Podolski one finally came good. I think he's more versatile than M'Vila, & less expensive, which is why I'd prefer him - a versatile defensive player like a Kompany or an Ivanovic (or indeed a Song) is a very important part of a top team IMO, and whilst we've already got one, another definitely wouldn't hurt. Still - not a priority, I hope.

As he's available for a decent price, I'm sure we're interested along with half a dozen clubs.

But why do transfers have to be so linear? We could be in the process of signing Matias Suarez for all we know, it's just not been reported yet.

Well, it looks like I was wrong. Some quotes out in today's papers where it would appear that Wenger is at pains to confirm that he sees Vertonghen as a centre back.
