Ozil was a boss. It’s amusing to me that Odegaard has a couple of good games and folks start putting his name in the same sentence with old bug eyes just because the German wouldn’t be bothered towards the tail end of his time here. Gem of a player. Hands down one of the best to ever put on an Arsenal jersey.

Sanchez was just a force of nature. Bundle of energy and tenacity. Some of those combination plays were mouthwatering. Simple one-twos. Quick and effective. Also loved those perfectly weighted chipped passes. Nice compilation.

Yeah, people forgot that the only real complaint about Ozil in the early years was that he didn't perform in big away games. That then turned to big games in general, then big games and away games in general and so on.

The only thing I'd say about Odegaard is I can't remember an occasion where Ozil led by example in terms of composure and work rate the way Martin did against Spurs and West Ham.

Its why I compare Odegaard to Fabregas instead, not once did I see Ozil control the game and dictate the pace the way Odegaard did in the second half against WHU. Thats Cesc-like. Odegaard has no assists and was still MOTM. When could you say that about Ozil?

Yep, said exactly the same in the Odegaard thread. Ozil is always the icing, Odegaard can be counted upon as the main man with his style. Good work rate, good composure and can take responsibility well. Whenever the team is playing badly Ozil disappears into thin air, even in the early days. When we are playing badly Odegaard is the only shining light past few matches in those difficult game management moments.

Yeah, that's exactly it. Since Cesc left, we've only really had Cazorla who could influence the tempo of the game and swing the momentum our way. Peak Ozil was an amazing player but his style was very different and reliant on the team controlling the flow of the game before he stepped up.

And reading reports from France and Norwich forums, both Aouar and Buendia might suffer from that Ozil condition. It’s why we have to find a way to keep this guy. A hardworking playmaker. His graft allowed Mikel to got into a 4123 with Partey behind Odegaard and ESR as twin 8s. You couldn’t try that shit with Ozil

Xhaka has been dictating our tempo for years and its not a good thing. Its why even while I think he's our second best mid we should still move him on.

Check the intelligence of the runs from both Freddie and Vieira. Freddie exits left to head to center as ball comes through. Vieira fades right to give an open option to Wiltord, who drops off the ball and fills up the middle.

It's Jeffers actually not Freddie but yeah our counters those days were incredibly intelligent and ruthless. Too powerful to stop anyway

Every player is 2 steps ahead. What really stands out is deliberat the headers are at the very start of the move to set up the quick counters. Compared with how erratic our defending became in the later Wenger years.

Really enjoyed this. God, I miss the times when it was exciting to watch Arsenal.

We have some really excitng young players at the moment who would probably thrive on that kind of football too. What's lacking is mostly additional quality, but also the attacking vision. We'll have to get a manager who can get the most out of them in the future if Arteta can't prove he's up to the task.

These are Wengery kids, they're exactly what he would have wanted. Its a pity we didn't have them a decade ago.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. The last time he had a generation with this kind of talent on his hands he turned it into the invincibles.
