He deserves all the hatred he gets, partly because it's proportionate to how good he was. From a footballing stand point, he was unbelievable. When he came into the the invincibles squad as a 21 year old, he had Henry calling him the best technician in the squad. I think he had it in him to be Messi/Ronaldo level, if not for the injuries and the dogshit teams he played in.

Yeah you can really feel the hatred in your post. Honestly even if he didn't turn out to be a fucking rat I wouldn't even say he's top five.

Genuinely forgot we gave them a guard of honour. Nobody will even remember him in five years from now.

He won the PL, but he managed to create a situation where he isn't thought of as a legend by any fans of any club. He easily could have been one with his talent. It was so obvious that Fergie convinced him into coming and then fucked off, and he deserved it.

I remember that season like it was yesterday. 5 points clear at the top of the table with 12 games to play and then Martin Taylor happened. And how we got fucked over by the refs and Bendtner/Toure against Liverpool in the CL...

Just look at the confidence and flare the players had to produce some of those attacking moves. We've been a total wreck in the last couple of years. Really hope our attacking football starts to blossom again soon. Confidence and belief breeds more of itself. That team really believed they could score against anyone. If you look at that team, there were more than a few average players in that team, but the chemistry and team spirit was so good that it masked that lack of quality(to an extent; it was probably why we fell short in the end).

Yep. Everytime I look back at all the matches in our 07-08 season I am in awe by the football we played. It was even more technical than the Invincibles, although lacking that power. The way we dominated in big matches, in UCL is something else. Extremely unlucky in results and the refs really fucked us up. Cant even say if there were VAR those days we would be saved because VAR now fuck us even more by being more selective on what to review.

It was an extremely balanced team, we should have won the PL and made the UCL final.

I think Rosicky and Van Persie being crocks also played a massive part in our downfall. And losing Eduardo in that way(and giving away two points in that game to a bullshit last minute penalty) really broke the team mentally.

This was the team during the run where we dropped a load of points:

Almunia, Sagna, Senderos, Gallas, Clichy, Fabregas, Flamini, Silva (Toure 65), Hleb, Adebayor, Bendtner

We also saw Eboue and Diaby feature on the wings too.

As soon as Adebayor stopped scoring, that was it, we had nothing to offer.

United has prime Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Carrick, Vidic, Rio, Evra and VDS with guys like Nani, Hargreaves, Pique and Saha on the bench.

We had absolutely no business competing with that side, and when you look at our squad, it was frankly incredible how close we got.

That being said, it's a great example of how important it is to have the right balance and a team that clicks.

I still think it's treacherous to blame Clichy for making a perfect clearance that the referee somehow decided was a penalty.

It's weird, isn't it? I see people saying things like "he shouldn't give the ref the opportunity to make that mistake", like Clichy is not only responsible for doing his own job, but also for making sure the ref doesn't have to do his.

It’s got less to do with the tackle and more to do with the fact that he gave them the ball virtually in our penalty area.

Perfect clearance is also a stretch, let’s be honest it was a desperate tackle in an attempt to rectify his initial error, which in fairness he gets right. But that whole play was a textbook case of a Clichy brain fart.

Not only 2007-2008 but how did we go from 2007-2011 (our best side post invincibles imo) without winning one damn trophy?

Personally blame Wenger for lack of 'winning mentality' when it mattered the most and also for making us so vulnerable and fragile i.e. we never got over bad defeats which put us in downward spirals which is why we often got knocked out of more than one competition in a space of a week...

Biggest compliment I can give Arteta is that he is made of sterner stuff (touch wood). Also, our squad now is better than it was compared to 2007-2011 - although we prob had a better first 11 then.

And I didn't say I hate him for leaving or even that I hate him, it turns my stomach because my favourite player by a country mile from that period, pretty much since he was 17, now strolls around saying he's can't choose between Chelsea and Arsenal, celebrates Chelsea's wins and and generally has a strong affinity for them and Mourinho. If you're comfortable with all that, good for you.

The combination between these 2 was sublime. The less some of the rest got involved generally the better. We just needed to get a couple of signings right after we brought them in and we could have really made a shift up.

Now we're playing g some decent footy again we can hopefully start to look back without feeling butt hurt.
