As an aside, do you think it'll make any difference what formation we play? There are plenty of holes in the squad whatever the system. Perhaps in the odd game there's a tactical advantage to be had but that's about it.

Wenger lies and people buy it including pundits.

We haven't 'bought' young players for the first team for a long time. We just haven't bought enough and entrusted underperforming players for too long. When the trust seems to be bearing fruit, the player leaves and that is mainly because of the money they are getting elsewhere.

I think there is a massive difference between 2 central defenders of the opposition being occupied by one striker and being occupied by two.

Indeed, he says a lot of things and most of it is rubbish, but fact is he says them.

We have to look at what he does rather than what he says, and the trend seems to be towards older players in their mid 20's.

True, you get lazy journos saying that Arsenal don't bother with defenders but we've spent more money on the defence than on attackers over the past three or four years. That's definitely a change from 2007-2008 when our defence was a collection of bargain bin buys and Sagna.

Biggus, we finished 3rd last season after a disaster of a summer, after getting only 7 points from our first 7 games which had a lot to do with our summer and having our best midfielder out for the season.

That is no trophy but one can take a lot of heart from last season. Sad thing is we are about to lose our biggest contributor from last season.

Last season was an amazing contribution from RvP, but I think that we were going to lose him anyway Rohit, either through injury or as it turned out disillusion.
He did get Wenger out of jail, that and the combination of Chelsea being so poor under AvB, but without some real investment in the team I can't see us winning the title.
And that at the end of the day is what we're here for, to keep getting 3rd/4th is just papering over the cracks, it allows the illusion to be maintained that things aren't so bad.
