Dont worry lads, YounGunner just has a bad case of either 'Youtube-itis' or 'Championship Manager Syndrome'. It's increasingly common.

Basically if you're under 5ft 9, skillful and reasonably quick you're brilliant, exciting and elite, but if you're 6ft 4 and a big, powerful centre forward that specializes in winning headers, being a handful and scoring from 6 yards out you're boring and average.

As far as van Persie goes, he was never going to leave back in 2009. He was unproven and extremely injury prone. He's had it better at Arsenal for the past decade than he would've had at any other club in the world. I don't disagree with you on Van Persie's career decision but if he was in it for the money he would have left in 2009 because he received better offers.

Van Persie has probably repaid us in the CL money he helped win us in 08/09 and last season when we were struggling badly.

This is the first season where he's played every game but its not like he hasn't contributed immensely in other seasons.

I remember him going AWOL in the 2nd half of that season, could not manage a single league goal after his strike against Everton in January till the last game of the season in May. Last season, was Robin's only top season with us. He was always injured during crucial moments of the season before that.

I'm with Klaus on this one, if anything Robin owes us, not the other way around.

I have not been fan of our transfer dealings over the years but can't really understand how any fan would accuse the club for not showing ambition as far this transfer window is concerned. I think we need to get real, we are not the richest nor the most succesful club around, that means we can't just go out and sign any top player that's available, there are clubs with greater pull or money in the league - that's the reality mate.

Van is spot on. I would only add that Arsenal have never been in a higher bracket as far as the biggest clubs on earth go than we are now, so any idea that we are currently under our deserved ranking is false.

Genuinely please with all things Arsenal right now. Exciting new signings, good compilations to watch, and possibly even more to come. Every club has a scare or 2 every season, not just us, when it comes to "losing" their best players. It's to be expected, and all part of the show. Just hope they do everything they can to keep him. I'd almost be more frustrated because he was our captain and a good one at that, than because of his ability as a player, if RVP left at this point.

i don't understand how anyone can feel that way. i haven't had the slightest inclination to watch an arsenal season in review since 07-08. in fact, i'll turn it off if it comes on. our highlights have been pretty boring for years, barring the odd van persie goal and arshavin's strike against barca. i'm not really excited to see podolski or giroud, either.

while i suppose i'm glad the wheels haven't completely come off, i don't think we're any closer to winning trophies. at best, we're barely treading water. it doesn't feel like we're making progress, and the results back that up.

this club is stagnating, or possibly even heading in the wrong direction.

Your just making things more painful than they need to be. Be happy with with you've got or piss and moan, but just know that your expectations have no foundation in Arsenal's history or our current status. As a club, we are growing and going forward. Relative to a select few other clubs we are growing much more slowly. Relative to literally everyone else, we are bloody fantastic.

You choose the way to look at it, its totally subjective at this point. There is no objective measure to suggest that Arsenal are in any way shape or form stagnating or going in the wrong direction when comparing our current situation to our long-term trend and historical status. We started winning trophies in 1930 and its only been 12 more league titles since then with 4 of them in the same decade (the 1930s). The vast majority of the time, we lose. Every once in a while, we win. Welcome to Arsenal.

With the Giroud and Podolski signings I think it's looking certain that RvP is gone.
I don't blame him and I wish him all the best.
I think the club is keeping it secret like everything they do so as not to affect negotiations for other players.

I've thought about the ramifications and I'm happy with them, yes he had one great season but with his injury record it's only a matter of time before he succumbs to another lengthy lay off.
Also with many incoming players plus those who arrived last season Van Persie is the last link with the failed Fabregas era, (along with Walcott who I'm not bothered if he leaves too), although RvP was never as cuntish as Adebayor Gallas Hleb Fabregas and Nasri nor as shit as Denilson Almunia Bendtner and Chamakh he was a remnant of that whole stinking failed team
So it will be good to move on in terms of players who are untarnished and hopefully a new style of playing.

Now if we could only get a new manager too.......

I agree Biggus. What looks set to happen with Van Persie is more or less what many fans advocated before the last 18 months or so were up.

I think we should be doing more to try to keep him - particularly if it's about a relatively small amount of money, like £20-30k/w - but I'm already disengaging myself emotionally.

However, if he goes, I will feel ever so slightly better if he picks up a three month injury shortly thereafter.

@[deleted] Somewhat presumptuous to use our "long term trend and historical status" to justify setting low expectations. We were actually the most successful club of the 20th C on average, as can be seen here (scroll to "20th Century Overall League table").

The average tells nothing like the full story, but if any club should have high expectations based on long term trends, perhaps it's us.

Not sure if any of you lot are aware, but a David Ornstein, @bbcsport_david, tweeted yesterday that van Persie's preference was to stay- with or without a new contract. "Ball in #afc court".

So, perhaps not as cut and dried as some of you think.
