So Podolski and Giroud is ambition? Podolski has been very mediocre at club level and Giroud is unproven in a top class league. Giroud isn't even likely to play in the same team as Van Persie.
Ambition is Man Utd signing Kagawa, Chelsea signing Hazard. Thats ambition. Our midfield needs two quality acquisitions before we can talk about ambition.
That is a very childish way of looking at it. By all accounts we were also interested in signing Kagawa and Hazard but when better and richer clubs are able to put more on the table then there is not much we can do. Giroud also had the option of joining Chelsea but chose us. And if you're using Giroud is 'unproven in a top class league' the same label applies to Hazard too.
It seems the club is doing what it can. We might not be able to attract the nike posterboy that you wank over on Championship manager but it doesn't mean the club isn't trying to improve the squad considerably. Tripling the number of goalscorers at the club is a very solid start indeed. More work needs to be done in other positions but the club has already strengthened its squad a lot.
If Van Persie was motivated by money he would have left in 2009 when he recieved better offers from Chelsea and Inter Milan. If he's motivated by money then we would have no chance of keeping him anyway since we can't compete with Man Citys wages.
That's pure speculation but since we're playing along - was Van Persie not under a long contract in 2009? The club have turned down big transfer bids in the past.
I agree we can't compete with Man City's wages. And it should be interesting to seen't mind so much because, as fans, we don't see the benefits of millions stashed away.
Hazard is an exception he's an elite talent, Giroud isn't. Being interested in signing players means nothing if you don't follow it through. We had no chance of signing Hazard but we have a big chance of signing M'Vila and other quality players, so lets go for it.
The evidence is stacked against you. There's not one moment in Van Persie's career where he's come a cross as money hungry but there are moments where he's turned down higher wages to sign for Arsenal. Van Persie comes from a family of artists who value self expression over materialism.
