Think Ricky's point is that we've set up the team in a way that makes us completely reliant on van Persie. It's the Cesc problem all over again. The last few seasons we relied on Fabregas to create. This one we've geared everything towards getting the most out of Robin in front of goal. We need more quality spread over a couple positions, not one world-class player shouldering the whole burden. Obviously we'd be better off with Robin staying.
Van Persie began his crazy goal scoring run a year and a half ago when our team was built around Fabregas. He didn't suddenly start scoring because we built our team around him this season.
He always had it in him, the only difference is he's not getting injured anymore.
I agree with you though we need better quality around him but that certainly would not change anything about his game. As long as he's fit he will always score goals for us.
