Many of you are saying it would be unforgivable if we sold him to United full stop, whether it's 20, 30 or 40m. Nothing to do with 10m offer they've tabled.

I'd only sell him to them for 25m + and that's only if we have no other options. Otherwise I hope we force him to stay and get Frimpong to break his legs next May.

the only thing that truly matters if we flog rvp to them is that we must get in a top notch replacement - as good as i and we think giroud and podolski will be, its still too risky to be going into a fresh season with effectively just those two as our real striking option.

Good news is, there are plenty of options out there - lewandowski, llorente, huntelaar, damiao, hulk, jovetic to name a few, would increase our goal threat and attacking power in differing ways.

£25m is allegedly what it would take for United to sign him.
£20m for anyone else apparently.
Casting a cold eye on it I would say that's as good as we'd get in the current market.

Wenger's got a horrible decision to make here.
Pretty much whatever he chooses to do will hurt the club in some manner.

Personally I think the best option is to keep Van Persie if United do not pay the asking price (pointless thinking about Juve or City - they are not in the running, van Persie has seen to that)
It would make me almost physically ill to see Van Persie play for them but turning down that amount for manly emotional reasons would be stupid.

Don't understand why people are using this situation as a stick for Wenger's back.
Van Persie's massive ego and lack of any real empathy with the club is the issue here.
He is intent on United and he's tied our hands on this.

It's not hard to comprehend.
But caving into emotional hype and hysteria isn't a good foundation for making decisions nor is it the best of reasons for not selling a player who refuses to sign a new contract and who will be worth nothing to us next summer.

Anyway right now it looks as if United won't pay up so all of this mania may be just a big waste of energy.

Steve Stammers said on talksport Wenger is under no pressure to sell RVP and United's policy is to not bid high for players over 26. Rednose made that statement to stir things up.

Ferguson is trying to pacify his mob with this story following the spectacular gazumping that PSG pulled of to sign Lucas.

He'd be enraged to have to pay £25m plus for Van Persie

Personally, I think anything less than £30m for Robin from Manchester United= no sale. That may not be how it plays out, but this is our club captain and main man, Arsenal shouldn't even be thinking about voluntarily strengthening United whilst weakening ourselves- unless United pay through their arses for him.

If they don't pay, and nobody else will, then hold him to his contract and see what happens. We might, with the players we have brought in, have a very good season. He might decide he wants to stay. He might not, of course, and he might decide to go to United on free. But a year is a long time in football, and a 30 year old van Persie might not hold the attraction that he does now.

The rationale not to sell to them should be two-fold.

The fact that they are UTD as has already been discussed.
It is, in fact, to the detriment of our own success should we let him go. Yes he has a track record of injury but he has been one of our most consistent starters for the past 18-24 months. I remember seeing his name up there with the most number of completed minutes in the league chart for last season. The medical team has definitely done their due diligence on his body and there is no reason to believe he is any more likely to get injured now than any other player (if he does get injured it can only be coincidence). He is at the top of his game and really to sell him now would be a waste of all the patience and perseverance we kept in him through his darker treatment laden days. Even if we get 20-25m for him, I don't see a single striker out there that we can purchase to fill the hole he will leave for the coming season. It will be, at best, more transitioning and bedding in period for anyone we sign. As it stands, we already have too many new faces. Didn't wenger once mention once that at most the team could only handle 2-3 new starters and maintain chemistry/stability (i realise its not a sound science)? Whats more with the additions we have already made, playing and learning from RVP for a year will do them wonders for their own development. There is absolutely no way we could replace his contributions for the immediate future. With sponsorships up for renewal soon, its more important than ever that we really push for honours and there is no hope of happening should he be sold.

If he was willing to give 30 million for lucas then he has the cash to spend that on rvp. Anything less than that should be replied with a fuck off fax message. That fergie statement has really weakened his position because now i cant see wenger selling to him out of principles considering what he said.
