He was never going to renew his contract once it became obvious that he could earn twice as much elsewhere. I'm glad that he makes his intentions clear so early. He really shouldn't pretend that Arsenal means anything special to him though. Just bugger off to City for as much money we can possibly get. If he leaves soon we'll have a decent chance of reinvesting a bit of the money in the squad. Stark contrast to last year.

One way to test it would be to throw the bank at him like united did with rooney, see if he stays then? Can only see him going to juventus.

Meh it was always going to happen. Best we can hope is a swap with Madrid for Higuian or City for Tevez. Unfortunately we'll have Giroud leading the line struggling to find his feet.

I'm not that bothered by all of this. The main con is that we lose yet another name that would attract others but it's not like we sign star players anyway. Robin was realistically never going to have a season like the last one again. He's almost thirty and injury prone as fuck. Offering him £150K per week for four years would've been a poor investment in all likelihood. It would've secured a player of his stature for a while longer, however. I can't see us signing anyone who's even close to his level and that's the problem. We're banking on Wilshere to get back and be brilliant right off the mark. It's a bit risky.

Why in the world would we want to do that? Do people actually still want to him stay now?

He'll be 29 going into the upcomming season. He has a terrible injury record. We have very little to go on that would indicate that he can replicate the past season.

He's just not worth it.

And even if he were, I wouldn't want him now.

Agree with this.

The biggest problem with the RvP situation has always been psychological and related to the image of the club. It hurts the club to be seen selling yet another star player. And it probably hurts the egos of both Wenger and many fans who have to face the endless teasing from rival fans. But from a strict look at what investment in RvP is worth to the club, I don't think locking the club to a huge long-term contract to him is worth it.
