He's also written, 'A Walk In the Woods' which i've also never read that.

He's written travel books on America, the UK, Australia and Europe. I'm currently reading, 'Neither Here Nor There' which is about his travels in Europe.

He's written books on the English Language such as Mother Tongue.

He writes really interesting stuff in general.

Been on an NBA binge lately - Read the Jordan Rules, the Last Season, Dream Team, and Shaqs autobiography in the last 6 months.

Read Pratchett's "Dodger" recently. Not a Discworld book - based on the Artful Dodger. Dodger gets help from Charles Dickens, Henry Mayhew, Mr Bazlagette, Disraeli and others in solving a mystery. Good stuff.

Read the two latest Baldacci thrillers. The Forgotten was better than Zero Day.

Also read the Remarkable Journey of Mr Harold Fry about an old fellow who goes to post a letter and ends up walking from Devon to Berwick on Tweed. Excellent story.

They sort of are GM but they are hilarious.
For example in Notes from a small Island he writes about his experiences of travelling in Britain in the 70's, he describes the street names of medieval London which derived from the trade that was carried on there, unfortunately most of them were sanitised by the Victorians, and so we can't amble down Gropecunt lane anymore......

Started reading Clockers a couple of weeks back. And then a friend lent me Theatre of Silence by Matthew Bazell. I've only read about 80 pages of it and largely agree with what Bazell has to say about the state of football today, but I felt like I was being lectured, so I've returned to Clockers- a much better read.

Hey Biggus - very good. Got a good job, close to home, kids and wife all excellent, renovating the house, doing some exercise, travelling a bit, weathers nice.

Shame about the Arsenal.

Has anyone read A Song of Fire and Ice? And is it worth the hype?

I haven't watched the TV series yet, if that makes a difference.

Sounds like life is sweet Asterix, the last time you seemed apprehensive for the future and a bit unhappy.
If Arsenal ever get their act together and get rid of Wenger I can go into semi-retirement emerging from time to time to do some literary reviews, resting assured that my lifes work was complete.

@ GM, Don't get Pep started on it , yeah read them all starting with A Game of Thrones they're great.

I quite enjoyed them, although Dance With Dragons (the last one so far) was pretty boring IMO. But yeah, it's a fantastically written series. You can watch the TV show after reading the first 2.

Just finished reading Stephen Brills article about medical bills in Time magazine. Not a book as such but it deserves a mention here anyway. 40 pages of stunningly good, unprecedented research. Has to be a shoe-in for a Pulizer.

Loved Clockers. Went on to read The Finish: The Killing of Osama Bin-Laden which was good and am now reading Death In The City of Light- the true story of a serial killer in occupied Paris during WW2. Crazy story.

Just re read The Great Gatsby. It really is a brilliant piece of literature.

Hey literally just reading it from Bandy's link. Only read a bit so far but really like how he breaks it down to real patients and the costs of simple drugs. Much better from bottom up than top down.

Just re-read Howards End. When I look past the fact that there is no apostrophe marking the genitve in the title, it is difficult to come to any other conclusion than that it is a masterpiece of a book. Forster nailed it.

I just went and bought six or seven history books at the weekend. I hope to have them finished by... hmm, 2020.

Mind you, I finished the first one last night; Callsign Hades by Patrick Bury. It's by an Irish guy who served as an officer with the 1st Royal Irish in the British Army in Afghanistan. Excellent, and obviously considering I finished it so quickly, easy read.

Moving on to a book on the battle of Agincourt now, before I (some day) read Nathaniel Fick's Iraq book (the Lt from Generation Kill).

After watching the first two seasons of Game of Thrones I've decided to start reading some George R.R. Martin. Going to start with his first novel - Dying of the Light.

The only book I've read recently is Flatland by Edwin Abbott Abbott. Good Lord that was tedious.
