Yeah, same - I put it down after about a chapter. You'd be better off re-reading the Mabinogion if you want to capture some of the atmosphere 🙂

Wasn't there going to be a film series made? I recall hearing that at some stage.

Heh. Tried to watch the movie after I had read the first couple of books. Was impossible. Absolute garbage of the highest order.

Just finished reading "The Looming Tower, Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11" by Lawrence Wright....It came out in 2006, so I'm behind the times...

He covers areas that most Americans are so unfamiliar with, the intellectuals who created the foundation for radical Islam, the tragedy and gradual downfall of Western culture, the major personalities surrounding the event, the failings of the American intelligence agencies....Easy to read, almost like a gripping novel...Has some flaws, but all in all a great read on one major 21st century tragedy...

Highly recommend....

I gave up reading The Idiot yesterday- was about 200 pages through 570 and enjoying it, but it's so... dense.

Now reading Before I Go To Sleep, which is a much easier read. Kindle versions of 11-22-63 and Skag Boys are awaiting my holiday. Oh yeah.

Got lost in reading "One Day" over two nights.
Probably the most absorbing, warm, funny and melancholy book I've read in ages.

I heard the film is atrocious so I'll avoid it.

Just finished 'The amazing adventures of Kavalier & Clay'. Highly recommended! It is the first book by Chabon that I've read, looking forward to reading more of him...

It's better than you might think. Having loved the book, I was really dubious but enjoyed it.

I finished most of Salman Rushdie's new novel, "Joseph Anton", on the trip home from Boston. It saved me from committing suicide when I missed a connecting flight and had to wait around on Heathrow for eight hours in the middle of the night. It's a terrific read.

The Quantum Thief is a good read. Probably one of the best SF debuts I've read in years.

Reading Auclair's biography of Thierry Henry.

It's very good. And a long way from hagiographic.

I had a look at that in the bookshop the other day, flicked through a bit and found it pretty interesting. The story about a move to Real Madrid as a youngster was all new to me. Not got a lot of time on my hands but I'm planning on getting it soon.

Also had a look at Merse's new book but had to put it down as I was standing in the shop laughing away to myself like an idiot 😆

Got The Secret Footballer for Christmas which is pretty good but it seems like a collection of his columns. I'm not sure how much of it is new material, if any. Interesting all the same anyway. Would hate it to turn out to be someone I don't like.

Reading a lot of Bill Bryson. I like his humour and subject matters.

A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson is superb. Haven't read anything else by him - aren't they mostly travel books?
