Recently I've been annoyed by people's suggestions that Arsene is somehow not a good manager. People point at things that have been routine under his guidance and complain as if pretty much every other team (successful or not) weren't going through the same things. Then, they completely ignore the real problem at the heart of the club, and moan away their frustrations against a man who could be doing a great job for us, if he was asked to stick to it.

Arsene is a great manager, but he has way too much responsibility in this club. Because ultimately everything is his choice, he always settles for stable balanced positions, and no one convinces him otherwise.

The problem is that you can't have the person who needs the money, and the person who has the money, being the same. Anyone who has worked at a big corporation knows that you need experts all pulling in their own direction and a moderator who decides what is possible and what isn't. At Arsenal, Wenger is playing all positions rather unsuccessfully.

He restricts himself to the bare minimum he thinks he needs to succeed, and then that's exactly what he delivers.

I'm convinced that if he was more 'selfish' and demanded certain players or at least high quality reinforcements in certain positions, we would have a much more competent squad. The amount of money we refused to raise to sign a centreback last season was ridiculous in comparison to what now we know we could have made by winning the Carling Cup and advancing in the FA Cup alone. Arsene wanted a centre back, and he wanted a defensive mid the season before, and he wanted a striker in last year's transfer window. He wants this things, the right things to want; what we need... but then puts limitations on himself.

He is obviously not capable of doing the 'running the whole club' job he is doing now (unless he is taking bullets for the board). But he is a very competent manager and decidedly one of the best in world football.

Pretty much every mistake he has made has been with the club's financial stability in mind. We should get someone to worry about that and make his wishes come true more often than he himself thinks necessary.

His self-imposed limitations are the origin of all the problems Arsenal is facing right now. That's where we should address the problem - he's still got it in him to create a championship worthy squad.
