Levy had to hold on to Modric this summer for the first time, we've been fending off interest for Cesc for at least two seasons prior to this one and this wasn't the first time Barcelona came calling. More to the point, the little shithead refused to go anywhere else which meant we were massively on the backfoot even while negotiating.
Maybe we could have done more but I don't think we fucked up with either Nasri or Cesc. The problem was not signing replacements before the season began, Mertesacker and Santos could have been at the club before pre-season and they were not dependent on Nasri or Cesc staying.
