Wilshere's not underrated in the slightest, he's being touted as the solution to Arsenal and England's woes. It's a little too much in fact.

But despite that, Wilshere's in a class of his own and within the next year I think he'll become a force to be reckoned with.

Wilshere is not underrated.
At least not by anyone on here.
Some people have raised the question regarding how he will have been affected by the season out from injury.
It's a legitamate concern - we cannot be certain that physically and mentally that this injury and lay-off will leave him unscathed.

In my opinion, his talents have been underrated since he broke through. As long as he puts this year's injury firmly behind him, I think he will pleasantly surprise a lot of people. And yes, that takes into consideration how hyped he already is. Just my opinion.

To be fair I don't think anyone will be surprised, pleasently or otherwise, if Wilshere goes on to be one of the players of his generation.

I'm genuinely mystified as to how you can think he's underrated 🙂

I rate wilshere extremely highly, his part in arshavin goal against barca typifies him, he is a rare few who know what they will do before the ball comes to them and are able to execute however, his injury hit season and inconsistent stats prove he is still a youngster and shouldnt be a given starter, but obviously more often than not he will play.

I would want a hard working midfield who will cover ground and win the ball back. Then a playmaker who can pick out the runs of podolski walcott and robin ala inter under mourinho.

Also wilshere is not under rated, he is seen by many, even opposition fans, as the golden boy of the new generation of england (style) and arsenal.

I think a lot of the comment on Ramsey on here lacks balance and perspective.
I feel it's frustration and anger fuelled quite a lot of the time.
He's the whipping boy for Wenger's failure to sign big in midfield after Cesc and Nasri left.

As for it being incredible that Ramsey was at one time hailed as the better talent - if he was it was marginal, and probably related to him pre injury getting some first team games, scoring and holding his own at the same time that Wilshere had just been sent out on loan.
Therefore I don't see it as in the least unusual that he was rated.

As far as I can recall Jacks always been hailed as the better prospect by most fans. Granted Ramsey showed a lot of promise pre injury but he was playing alongside better players and had more dynamism. He's lost that now and he just slows up our entire game.

Ramsey dribbling is his biggest fallback when fans rate him. Jack can always fall back on his dribbling and its always more exciting and can lift the crowd, whilst ramsey hasnt been able to do that.

It does look more and more like Wenger is going to have to make a big decision on Song. Either Song embraces being a DM and gives his all to become the best defensive midfielder he can, or we bring in a big player who will take that responsability. And then either move Song forward(which might be needed to provide some balance with a more attacking player like Podolski playing wide) or move him to the bench. We can't keep playing without a DM willing to take responsability when we have such attacking fullbacks and next year with attacking players like Podolski, Theo and the Ox playing wide.

Jack should not be a given. Even when he was a given, he was (given) the much simpler job of circulating the ball. It's quite different from being the main playmaker, and frankly we really need to stop offering first team positions like candy. Make Jack work for it. If he's good enough, he'll bench Kagawa.

As for the Song debate, the way I see it he's a DM or he can go to another club. His first touch and link-up play IS NOT good enough for him to play further forward when we already have better options and also are in need of further ones. Either Song pings his lobs from 10 yards deeper or he has no place at this club. We need somebody to defend damnit, it's ridiculous to see Arteta as the shield to the defense, when he has the best first touch and vision of all our (fit) midfielders.

Glad you pointed that out Klaus.
The myth that it was Song himself who decided to reinvent his role and roam forward - where did that come from ?
It puzzles me that people believe that he took it upon himself to become the creative midfielder when to me it seems that he is more comfortable playing the deeper, defensive role.

space: Not saying I entirely agree with him either, but I can see the sense in the approach. It makes us a better team when it works and a worse one when it doesn't. I'm convinced that if we had more quality players in the team we would do better irrespective of whether we're playing with a designated defensive midfielder or not, though. The bottom line in any case is that Wenger clearly wants him to push forward. It should have ended the Song debate a long time ago, or at least put it on hold until we actually sign a DM (which I doubt will happen).

Song, for all his positives (and there are several) is simply not good enough to play higher up the field. He causes more problems than he solves. I suppose the idea that Wenger has is that he can win the ball back higher up the pitch, but Song is so languid when defending, so it doesn't actually work out like that on the field. Credit to him for improving his long balls, but his short passing is still erratic and he struggles the most out of all our midfielders when pressured on the ball. No reason to play him high up the pitch other than to hope that he slides a Cesc-esque pass to Robin.

I maintain that he's a DM (who can still try his hollywood balls if they're on), or he is a problematic player that needs to be benched (or sold).
