Wow it's not really like us to do deals so early, probably means we mean business this summer.

Not my 1st choice but how can you not be excited by a player with over 40 goals for Germany. One big positive is, he looks a better player than our two wing forwards this season. Can't wait to see this confirmed on arsenal.com

The timing strikes me as being for van Persie's benefit.

I think the next challenge will be to find a striker who's capable of sitting on the bench for most of the season and still deliver goals. Any striker we're linked with will need regular football to stay at the top of their game but there's no way that'll happen as long as van Persie is fit, it's going to be difficult to find a balance.

Unless we make Podolski our back up striker as welll as our first choice wide forward and move him about when injuries strike.

your last line is the most likely scenario gm. ive been begging us to sign versatile dynamic players so we can shuffle the pack when needed. guys like chambo and poldi are a big step in the right direction

Wasn't too interested so long as it was only the Bild who had sources on it but BBC Sport speaking to Arsenal about it makes it quite reliable. Lets hope we tie it up. We did it with Chamakh (although he was completely out of contract and no transfer fee needed to be agreed).

Lets hope the signing is for Van Persie to take notice.

That's the way forward, no quality striker would be willing to sit on the bench for the majority of the season. And even if they'd, they'll be rusty when are asked to occasionally fill in. The best solution is to have 1 or 2 quality players who can play on the wings and as central strikers.

Also Gervinho will be going to the ACN next Jan, so we'll get half a season out of him again.

The ACN is being shifted to odd number years so that it does not coincide with the World Cup or something along those lines, as a result they're having one in 2013.

I heard alot of rumours about his wages, some say 100k some say 140k. Surely it isn't that high?

The fee is fantastic though. He is definitely signed unless he fails a medical.

Its probably close to 100k, I think thats ok considering he is a first team player. With a lot of the deadwood moving on we should have a considerable amount of wages to spend

Could do, 4-4-2 is okish in the premiership. We'd be slaughtered in Europe though.

He will be a great signing because he can play across the forward line.

I am just not convinced about him being suited for the left forward role in England though, where he will have no space and packed defences to deal with. Still, can't be any worse than Walcott on the right hand side even if he struggles.

We will finally have a fantastic starting/ back-up option and a proven goal scorer other than Van Persie.

He's a good footballer but his technique isn't top, top level and his mentality can be questionable both on and off of the pitch; he's a flawed player to be honest. Main thing is that he has to score goals when he comes here and then you can overlook the issues.

Seriously weird you say that, because I believe he has fantastic technique, especially shooting and volleying wise.

I don't really rate him on the wings, don't think he will suit our wing play. He don't quite have enough pace, and enough trickery dribble/2 footedness to beat his man regularly, but as a CF he is quite good. 10.5m is a brilliant deal though

I'm not overtly fussed about his lack of top, top level technique, especially with a guy like Podolski who'd rather thump it in the back of the net from 20 yards, instead of twinkle-toeing his way into the box, but it's his mentality that worries me. I so hope he's grown up a bit from the sulker he was back at Bayern.

Maybe the opportunity to finally rejoin "the big boys" will make up go up a level, like it did with Arteta.
