I think Podolski is a signing that could go either way. Could really explode and establish himself as a top, top European talent or equally, I could see him flopping completely. I find myself believing the former is more likely. I don't claim to have seen much of him for club (though, perhaps more than your average Arsenal/Premier League fan) but some of his performances at international level have been really eye catching.

He definitely has talent. If he was to be a hit here I believe we'd be definite title contenders next season. RVP has been brilliant this season and it's gone some way to covering up our attacking impotence. We deffo need to sign a couple of attacking options this summer and Podolski would be a great start.

I trust wenger when he signs attacking players. I think we will see a lot of ins and outs this summer with all the previous first team members who were loaned out moving out of the club permanently and new faces coming in.

How is podolski's pace?

he's got enough pace to trouble defenders, and he's got a cannon left foot. he is coming into his prime years, so if we can get this done, i'd be all for it, as long as he's not an RvP replacement

In relative terms (Carroll, Torres) £18m is not that huge a risk on a striker.

I like Podolski, but I really hope we don't pay 18M for him. He's never excelled at club level (this season aside) . 18M would be way too big a risk to make considering we won't be spending a whole lot more than that in total.

We would only pay 18m as part of a seriously structured deal, I would imagine.

I'm finding it hard to be extremely positive about the possibility/probability of Podolski's arrival. He would've been a good winter signing no doubt, but as a summer signing (and probably our "big name") he's underwhelming.

But at least he's got an aggressive personality. Outside of Van Persie we lack ego up front.

I'd be well excited if we signed Podolski. I have certain reservations about him, but he's still a very good player with the potential to explode in the right team. And he's a proven and consistent supplier of GOALS!

Just think he's a very good player and would be a very good signing. Potentially brings a lot of things we need.

Personally, I'm not convinced any of the 'big name' attackers that we've been linked to (Gotze, Hazard etc) are worth the money they'd cost. Someone like Aguero is worth £30 million +, but not any of these other blokes imo.

I'm with Burnsy. Podolski would have been a massive winter signing. However, in the summer he has to be one of a number of signings with at least one o them a superior player. If Podolski is the highlight of our summer, then I'll be watching Reading games next season.

I agree tim, if your gonna spend that amount its gotta be on someone who is gonna make instant impact and score goals regularly. I can think of a few with cavani or falcao being top choice.

Podolski could potentially be a great snatch at 15 million, if he scores as he has for the past few season then it could be great business.

I'll be surprised if Lille get more than £25m for Hazard, I'd rather pay that for him than £18m for Podolski, if that was the choice.

Bottom line for me is I'd love Podolski as competition for Robin, and starting the occasional game out wide, but I am not enamoured with the idea of Podolski coming in as a starting wide player, and not really being a suitable replacement for van Persie when it's required of him.

He's not going to come here for that money and spend any time sitting on the bench, and I think we could make a better signing out wide.
