They played the same way last season too. Should be obvious by now that it doesn't work against opponents who press, especially not with Lloris in goal. I don't care what people say, yesterday was not a great performance from him. He almost got sent off twice. That tackle on Walcott could easily have been red card and three games on the sideline. I watched him do the exact same thing last week against Swansea way outside his own box, only he missed the ball completely that time and left the goal wide open. The commentator yesterday pointed out that a similar mistake from him last season also was responsible for killing off Spurs good form during the run-in and eventually saw them drop out of the top four.
People complain about Szczesny being reckless, and rightly so, but Lloris is even worse. I appreciate that the problem is made much worse by Villas-Boas who obviously tells him to play some kind of libero role in order to push the defensive line higher up the field, but he's not a good enough player to do it.
