Growing up in Botswana, my team and it's rival were the 2 best teams in the league. It wasn't just about pride in those games. There were always trophies at stake. It was heartbreaking losing to them, but because we could celebrate with trophies, it was always more exhilarating to win against them. These rivals fell off in later years, and were relegated. At first we mocked them, but the reality was that in those barren years for them, our games were always less exciting.
I want Spurs to be good. To give our rivalry more meaning. In fact, what we have now can hardly be called a rivalry given the last 20 odd years. It's too lopsided. I want them to be better. But I don't ever want them to be better than us.
